Get Connected

Loyola University Chicago and its Jesuit Catholic tradition of education prepares students for extraordinary lives through values-based leadership, its commitment to excellence in scholarship, and teaching and in service that promotes justice.

The Department of Student Diversity and Multicultural Affairs seeks to foster a campus environment that supports diverse perspectives and interaction among individuals from various cultural backgrounds, social classes, religious traditions, sexual orientations, disability groups and genders.

Our programs are designed to foster cross-cultural connections among our diverse community members. Each program serves to educate, highlight or recognize the unique and rich differences among groups, while promoting support and unity for those groups who are often marginalized and underserved.

Annual Welcome Picnic
The Department sponsors an Annual Welcome Picnic to kick-off the year in celebration of Loyola's diversity. Members of the Diversity Council and the STARS program assist in coordinating an array of cultural caterers from the surrounding community and entertainment from different ethnic organizations to help incoming students connect with one another and enable the community to celebrate its rich diversity.

Leadership in Diversity Summit
The Leadership Summit takes place toward the end of the Spring Semester. The summit is open to student organizations that have an interest in promoting diversity and social justice through their vision planning and programming efforts. Participants will gain leadership skills and tools they need so that their organizations will have an effective and successful experience at Loyola. The summit is designed so that executive boards of organizations can learn and work as a group. This will allow new executive board members the opportunity to team build and initiate ideas for the upcoming academic year. Interactive workshops, discussions, games and exercises led by Department staff members and allies are a part of the full-day summit.
