Diversity Scholarships

The scholarships listed are primarily available to historically underrepresented populations specifically by race, ethnicity, gender, religion, and sexual orientation. This is an exhaustive list. We encourage students to begin here and also explore more opportunities.

African American/African/Black:

 The Ora Lee Sanders Scholarship is open to anyone from freshman to seniors. The scholarship is renewable up to 4 years based upon G.P.A

The United Negro College Fund offers various scholarships. Loyola is not a UNCF member college, so some of the scholarships may not be applicable.

The National Society of Black Engineers offers various scholarships, but the student must be a member of the NSBE.

Little Africa offers a scholarship list and a fellowship list. Please pay attention to the various deadlines.

The Sallie Mae Fund offers a scholarship search engine that fits your eligibility.

The UNCF/MERCK Undergraduate Science Research Scholarship Award offers a great opportunity for summer research and up to a $10,000 stipend.

The Robert Toigo Foundation offers fellowship opportunities for pre-MBA and MBA students.

Arab/Middle Eastern:

The Ameen Rihani Scholarship (ARS) is only for incoming freshman of Lebanese or Arab descent.  It is particularly for students who are majoring in political science, literature, or philosophy.

Jack G. Shaheen Mass Communications Scholarship for Arab-American students who excel in Media Studies.

This site gives a list of various Arab-American Scholarships.

The Iranian-American Scholarship Fund  is offered to any students of Iranian descent. Many sources of documentation need to be provided. (The fund still accepts applications even though it says the deadline is 2010) 

Asian:

The US Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce Education Foundation presents a number of different sponsors who provide scholarships to high school seniors entering a post-secondary institute.

The Asian and Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund is intended for college students in your freshman, sophomore or junior year. Scholarships range from $2500-$5000. Application deadline is January 13, 2012.

The Asian American Journalists Association has multiple scholarships for aspiring journalists. There are also some internships available for interested students.

The Japanese American Citizens League has scholarships for anyone attending a higher institution of learning at any level. You must join the JACL.

The Korean American Scholarship Fund requires two recommendation forms, an official transcript, an essay, and a personal statement.

The Asian Pacific Fund offers a number of different scholarships a student can apply for all in one website.

Atheists:

American Atheists offers a scholarship awarded primarily on activism.

Freedom from Religion offers two different essay competitions for scholarships.

Students with Disabilities:

The Schwallie Family Scholarship Program from the Organization of Autism Research offers a $3000 scholarship for students with autism or Asperger’s Syndrome.

The National Federation of the Blind offers scholarships that range from $3000 to $12,000 for students who are legally blind in both eyes. The scholar must participate in the NFB convention.

Learning Ally offers various scholarships for college seniors who are legally blind or have dyslexia.

The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults offers a $2500 scholarship for a student that has been diagnosed with cancer or has a parent/sibling that has been diagnosed.

The Cycstic Fibrosis Scholarship Foundation offers a $1000 scholarship to students with cystic fibrosis who have completed two semesters of college.

The Elizabeth Nash Foundation offers grants to students with cystic fibrosis.

The Millie Brother Scholarship offers financial assistance to the children of dead adults.

Sertoma offers Hard of Hearing or Deaf Scholarships for undergraduate students with serious hearing loss.

Jewish:

**Ask your local Synagogue for scholarships!

The Jewish United Fund/Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago offers a scholarship for students who also apply for their Israel Experience program.

The Jewish United Fund also offers a merit based scholarship, but the student must also apply for the Israel Experience program.

The Jewish Federation Academic Scholarship Program offers scholarships to undergraduate students, but the students must be born or raised in the Cook County area.

The Marcus and Theresa Levie Educational Fund Scholarship is for college juniors and seniors or students at higher level studies. Students must also be residents of Cook County.

Latino/Chicano/Hispanic:

The Congressional Hispanic Congress Institute offers a $2,500 scholarship for undergraduates with a record of public-service and strong writing skills.

Loyola University- Latino Arts Beat winner gets a scholarship at Loyola.

The Loyola University Latino Alumni Board Scholarships offers three different scholarships through Loyola.

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund offers a whole list of scholarships. They have a single, general application that applies to many different scholarships.

The SHPE Foundation offers scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing a major/career in math, science, technology, or engineering.

¡Adelante! US Education Leadership Fund  for Hispanic students, who have a minimum of 3.0 GPA, are eligible for financial aid or state-funded programs, and are enrolled full-time.

 LGBTQIA:

 Over 200 National scholarships listed in this document. Many are state specific or ethnicity specific.

The Point Foundation supplies one application to be eligible for all of the scholarships listed on their site.

The Stronewall Community Foundation offers a couple different scholarships for female students identifying as lesbian, bisexual, or transgender.

Amigas Latinas hopes to empower Latin American lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning women.

Muslim:

Islamic Scholarship Fund offers a scholarship requiring an essay and other documentation.

The Islamic Society of North America offers this scholarship for incoming freshman.

The Fadel Education Foundation offers scholarships of up to $3500 a year for undergraduates.

The Center for Global Understanding provides a paid for internship in Washington D.C.

The Muslim Students Association National Scholarship looks for students with a strong commitment to Islamic activism or involvement in their MSA or local equivalent Islamic organization.

This site has a small list of scholarships for Muslim students.

The Bint Jebail Cultural Center offers scholarships of $500. Students from Michigan are favored, but others are considered.

Native American:

 The Indian Health Services Scholarship Program offers different levels of scholarships for undergraduates, graduates, and students entering health professions.

The Morris L. Udall and Stewart L. Udall Foundation offers Congressional Fellowship/Internship/Scholarship if students are studying the fields of careers related to the environment, tribal public policy, or Native American health care.

The National Congress of American Indians offer internships and fellowships to students who are interested in learning about the legislative issues of different tribes.  

The American Indian Scholarship Fund is open to tribal college students or high school seniors. They also offer tribe specific scholarships.

The American Indian Science and Engineering Society offers multiple scholarships for undergraduates.

The American Indian Scholarship list has many different links to small and large scholarships.

Undocumented Students:

The Chicano Organizing & Research in Education  organization offers the Fourth Annual Que Llueva Café Scholarship for students without documentation.

Fondo Futuro aids students in the college preparation process.

The Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights offers a student guide for undocumented students trying to apply to/manage their way through college.

Women:

College Scholarships.Org provides a scholarship for female undergraduate and graduate students. Only a 300 word essay is required for entry.

Zonta International offers an international scholarship for women entering the business field.

Women's Independence Scholarship Program provides a scholarship to help survivors of intimate partner abuse obtain an education.

The Daughters of the American Revolution offer a variety of scholarships for undergraduates and graduate students.

The American Association of University Women offers various fellowships, grants, and scholarships.

The Davis Putter Scholarship Fund provides need-based grants to students who are able to do academic work at the college level and are actively working for peace and justice.

The Collegiate Inventors Competition is for the inventors out there who are developing new projects. Finalists will go to Washington, D.C. to present their work to a panel of judges.

The Akash Kuruvilla Memorial Scholarship Fund offers a $1000 to one male and one female each year. You must have a 3.0 out of 4.0 cumulative GPA to enter. It also includes a personal statement, essay, letter of recommendation, and resume.

Interested in learning foreign policy at the CIA? The CIA offers undergraduate internships in various fields.

Tylenol offers a scholarship to any students pursuing a career in healthcare.

U.S. Bank offers an easy to apply scholarship. Just fill out an online form. No essay required.

Xerox Minority Scholarship for those graduating with a degree in engineering or technical sciences.

The Ronald Reagan College Leaders Scholarship Program: Applicants will be asked to submit an essay of 500 to 750 words describing their backgrounds, career objectives and scope of participation in leadership activities promoting freedom, American values and constitutional principles.

Minority Awards Program at the Smithsonian offers undergraduate internship and research opportunities during the spring, fall, or summer.

The Ayn Ran Institute: Read the novel and write an essay as the application process.

The Brown-Caldwell Scholarship for minorities enrolled in any environmental science studies. They also have a few other scholarships unspecific to race.

These are scholarships for students wishing to study abroad from the Institute of International Education.

Rentdeals.com offers The Dreamer Scholarship for college students (3rd option on the website).

Microsoft offers internships and scholarships for students majoring in math, physics, and anything related to technology.

The DWF International Community Alliance offers an extensive list of scholarships for students.
