Kevin Huie, who is a graduate from Loyola's School of Education, completed his Masters degree in Higher Education in 1997 with a concentration in multicultural counseling. Kevin has his Bachelor's degree in History from the University of Notre Dame. Kevin returned to Loyola in 2002, has played a part in the University Core Curriculum renewal, and currently sits on a number of various University committees. Kevin is a former high school teacher, and has served as a consultant and/or diversity trainer for a number of different schools and organizations, including the Chicago Public Schools, the South Bend School Corporation, the NCAA National Youth Sports Program, and the Niles and Skokie School Districts. Kevin's academic research interests lie in multiracial identity, cultural competency, and diversity in education. Kevin teaches a first-year seminar course, has served as a guest lecturer for the School of Education and the Department of Sociology, and has trained Loyola's graduate assistants, teaching assistants, and student leaders.

Benjamin began as a program coordinator in the OSD in late 2004. He earned his M.S. degree in English from Illinois State University (2004) and a B.A. degree in Communication Studies and Sociology from Elmhurst College (2001). After being an active student leader as an undergraduate, working in the departments of Student Life, Residence Life and Multicultural Student Affairs, he became interested in working in higher education. While pursing his master's degree in English, he took advantage of an opportunity to continue working in Multicultural Student Affairs as a graduate assistant. Benjamin also serves as the advisor of the Tennis Club.

The newest member of the Department of Student Diversity and Multicultural Affairs, Risë Nelson Burrow coordinates the STARS Program, various heritage month celebrations and provides other opportunities and resources to the LUC community. Risë earned her Master’s degree in Higher and Postsecondary Education from Teachers College-Columbia University (2004), and she completed her Bachelor’s degree in both English and Multiethnic American Studies at Northeastern University (2002). Serving as a mentor-educator, she seeks to empower our students as they navigate their paths through Loyola and encourages the development of the campus community. Risë is particularly interested in the intersection of Multicultural Affairs and Service Learning, women’s leadership issues, and LGBTQ advocacy
Laila Alchaar

Laila graduated in 2004 from Columbia College Chicago with a BA in Arts Entertainment Media Management with a concentration in producing live performance. After almost 4 years of producing concerts, festivals, mobile tours, and theater in and outside of Chicago Laila decided to take her ambitions back to school. Laila is currently working toward her Masters in Higher Education with a concentration in Student Affairs at Loyola. While pursuing her degree you will find her working in the Department of Student Diversity and Multicultural Affairs with S.T.A.R.S, Loyola’s mentoring program for underrepresented students, and loving it! A founder of Columbia’s multicultural student organization, Laila hopes to continue her pursuits in multicultural education and research.

James Jansen is the Diversity and Leadership Development Graduate Assistant for the Department James is currently working on a Master of Science in Human Resources at Loyola's Graduate School of Business. James completed is undergraduate work at Loyola from the School of Business Administration with a double major in Human Resources and Operations Management and graduated Cum Laude in May, 2006 and recieved his MBA from Loyola in May, 2007. Once an executive board member and active participant in many of Loyola's cultural student organizations, James continues his diversity work in hopes of one day working as an international diversity trainer and consultant for Fortune 500 companies.
