Middle School Mathematics Education - M.Ed.

We invite you to apply to the Graduate School of Education and join a community of working professionals and full-time students who have chosen to advance their careers by pursuing a graduate degree.

Deadline for Spring: November 1 (For Spring 2009 the deadline is being extended to December 1)

Application Requirements

To apply for admission to the graduate programs in the School of Education, the following documents are required from domestic applicants:
  • A completed admission application
  • A $50 non-refundable application fee (fee waived for online application)
  • One set of official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions attended, showing a GPA of at least 3.0*
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Proof of an Illinois teaching certificate (a copy of the certificate or a printout of the state's web record)
  • A current resume that highlights work experience relevant to your professional goals
  • A statement of purpose. Please write a narrative of one to three pages that describes your:
    1. Academic and research interests, as well as professional goals
    2. Life experiences that have influenced your view of social justice
    3. Opinion why social justice is a vital aspect of preparing to teach in urban communities and
    4. Thoughts on the potential of intergrating science, literacy, and technology into middle school math

* Applicants whose undergraduate GPA is below 3.0 are encouraged to apply. Each program area gives meaningful consideration to the applicant's graduate GPA, GRE scores, recommendations, professional experience and reasons for pursuing a graduate program, as well as to the diversity of the student body.
