English as a Second Language (ESL) Endorsement


This program equips teachers with the knowledge and skills to effectively teach English Learners (ELs) in mainstream and English as a Second Language (ESL) classroom contexts. The program provides comprehensive instruction specific to ELs in today’s classrooms and schools, including second language acquisition theories and research, effective and innovative methods of instruction and assessment, and comprehensive knowledge about language, language policy, and more. Designed specifically for in-service educators, the program blends professional learning with 50% online with classroom-based applications and collaboration.

Cohort options

  • Vernon Hills: (Cuneo Mansion and Gardens Campus)
    Next Vernon Hills cohort anticipated starting Summer 2017
  • Lake Shore Campus:
    • Language Matters Cohort (also referred to as Chicago Community Trust)
  • Non-cohort option: For on-campus graduate students not tied to a specific cohort, classes will be held on Lake Shore or Water Tower Campus.

Tuition varies based on the cohort and location selection.
