FAQs: Higher Education - M.Ed.
For answers to more FAQs about the School of Education, see the general FAQs page.
- How long will it take to complete the program?
Part-time students are encouraged to take three to six hours (one or two classes) per semester. This makes it possible for students to complete the program in three years or less, with summer school enrollment. Full-time students can finish in two years or less. All students have five years from the date of their matriculation in which to complete their degree. Once enrolled, all students are expected to maintain continuous enrollment (Fall and Spring semesters).
- What kind of internship experiences are available?
All students experience at least one field-based internship. The emphasis is on practical experience within a specific area in student affairs units or other administrative offices. Both Loyola and the Chicago educational community provide many diverse internship options in many different types of institutions, and within many different administrative units (e.g., admission, financial aid, career planning and placement, and housing). The internship generally must be completed during the daytime (M-F) with some evening and weekend work occasionally. A minimum of 10 hours per week is required at the field-based site.
- Do I need undergraduate courses or a degree in education to be admitted?
No, higher education students come from many areas of undergraduate study.
