Loyola University Chicago has joined with the Jewish Education Leadership Institute (JELI) to offer an Administrative Leadership program for the Jewish Day Schools. Loyola's School of Education is offering a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree with a focus on the Jewish Day Schools. Jewish Day School/Yeshiva Certificates will be granted by JELI.
This rigorous, accelerated program strives to meet the needs of working educators and those seeking administrative leadership in Jewish educational institutions. The M.Ed. in Administration and Supervision and Jewish Day School/Yeshiva Principal Certification is offered on a convenient schedule of two consecutive summers of intensive study, each followed by a project in the Fall. In Fall of the first year an independent research project will be conducted that will influence the school-based practicum in the second Fall.
Classes for the master's degree meet Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. plus two evenings each week for both summers. Loyola faculty will assess progress of both the research project and the practicum. In addition, the practicum will be supervised by a mentor administrator in an approved institution. The institution will be selected for its demonstrated excellence as well as its relation to the candidate's philosophical beliefs and career goals.
JELI Mission: Strengthening and expanding Jewish Day Schools and Yeshivot is the background of Jewish survival and of a meaningful Jewish existence. The caliber of these educational systems, the strength of its leadership and the quality of its teachers and administration will vastly impact future generations of Jewish children and young adults. We owe it to our children and our grandchildren to fortify our day school with strong, visionary and well-trained professionals, which in turn will set the standard for excellence in education.
The Jewish Education Leadership Institute was established to develop professional training programs for future day school principals, administrators, executive directors, academic department chairmen and directors of development as well as to improve the skills of our teachers. Our goals are to energize the day school system by providing our future leadership with tools to bring a heightened level of professionalism and expertise in and out of the classroom to ensure the future success of the day school system.
