MEd in Higher Education
The MEd program in higher education prepares professional educators for a wide variety of administrative roles and functions in post-secondary education. Because a graduate program in higher education is an applied field of study, the MEd program emphasizes: 1) theoretical, cultural and historical perspectives regarding students, organizations and higher education; 2) research and assessment skills for higher education; and 3) application of research and theory to professional practice.
In addition to a broad-based core of courses in higher education, students have 12 credits of electives that allow them to customize their program according to their personal and professional needs, such as student affairs administration or post-secondary administration.
- The MEd program in higher education attracts students with experience in a wide range of higher education roles and settings, enriching students' educational experiences and allowing them to network with other professionals in the field.
- Loyola's metropolitan Chicago location provides students with numerous opportunities for internships and subsequent employment. Graduates of the MEd program hold administrative positions in many of the area's universities, community colleges, and professional and vocational schools.
- Balance work and graduate study with courses offered in the late afternoons and evenings.
The Higher Education Program Distinguished Alumnus/a Award is given for outstanding contributions through scholarship and service to the larger higher education profession. It is presented annually at the Loyola School of Education's reception at either the ACPA or NASPA national meeting.
