Transcripts must show a GPA of at least a 3.0. In exceptional cases, applicants whose undergraduate GPA is below 3.0 may be admitted. A Personal Statement
Your statement should be 1-3 pages, and you should describe your:

1. Academic and research interests, as well as your professional goals;

2. Life experiences that have influenced your view of social justice.

3. Describe how you have demonstrated transformational leadership throughout your P-12 experience.

Illinois Teaching License
Proof of a Professional Educator License should be submitted. If a test of basic skills was not required or waived at the time of licensure, proof of passing scores for the Test of Academic Proficiency are required. A passing score must be submitted no later than second semester registration to continue in the program. Candidates may apply using the ACT/SAT scores in LIEU of the TAP with an ACT composite of 22 plus the writing or SAT composite in mathematics and critical reading of 1030 plus the writing.

  • Please use these instructions for submitting ACT/SAT scores in lieu of the TAP.
  • To submit proof of passing scores an Education Licensure Information System (ELIS) screen shot must be submitted as part of the admission process. You can access the information by creating an ELIS account. You will then be able to view your testing information and future licensure information with the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).

Resume
A current resume that highlights work experience relevant to your professional goals and indicates a current teaching position in an appropriate school for the cohort to which you are applying with the teaching experience* listed below on a teaching license.
* Catholic Cohort: at least two years experience
   Lake County Cohort: at least four years experience

Application Fee
A $50 application fee is required for applications submitted by mail. If you complete the online application form, the application fee is waived.

Interview
The admissions committee may request an interview. Interviews are by invitation only.
If invited to interview, it will include a PowerPoint portfolio presentation, real-time analysis, and an on-site writing sample. If invited to campus, an email will be sent with specific instructions prior to the interview.

Applicants for a teaching license with a secondary endorsement must have completed a major or 32 semester hours with a 3.0 GPA in one of Loyola’s approved teaching disciplines (Biology, Chemistry, English, French, History, Italian, Latin, Math, Political Science, Physics, Psychology, or Spanish) prior to applying.

Illinois Test of Academic Proficiency (TAP)
(formerly known as the Illinois Basic Skills Test)
Proof of passing score must be submitted no later than second semester registration to continue in the program. Candidates may apply using the ACT/SAT scores in LIEU of the TAP with an ACT composite of 22 plus the writing or SAT composite in mathematics and critical reading of 1030 plus the writing.

  • Please use these instructions for submitting ACT/SAT scores in lieu of the TAP.

  • To submit proof of passing scores an Education Licensure Information System (ELIS) screen shot must be submitted as part of the admission process. You can access the information by creating an ELIS account. You will then be able to view your testing information and future licensure information with the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).

Application Fee
A $50 application fee is required for applications submitted by mail. If you complete the online application form, the application fee is waived.

Official Transcripts
Applicants must submit official transcripts for all undergraduate and any graduate work. To be eligible for admission, your transcript must show an earned bachelor's degree or a bachelor’s degree in progress. Certified copies of transcripts are acceptable; faxed copies of transcripts are not considered official. If you attended Loyola University Chicago previously, you do not need to request transcripts; we have them on record.

Transcripts must show a GPA of at least a 3.0. In exceptional cases, applicants whose undergraduate GPA is below 3.0 may be admitted. Each program area gives meaningful consideration to the applicant's graduate GPA, recommendations, professional experience and reasons for pursuing a graduate program, as well as to the diversity of the student body.

Three Letters of Recommendation
If you supply your recommender’s email address as part of your completed online application form, then your recommendation letters may be submitted online. Or, your recommenders may choose to mail them to:
