Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology

The Ph.D. program in Counseling Psychology is designed for students who seek to engage in the professional practice of psychology. The program is accredited by the American Psychological Association* and meets all APA standards.  The professional practice may include conducting research, teaching and/or counseling in a variety of settings. Students graduating from this program, provided they meet other State of Illinois requirements, may sit for the Clinical Psychologist licensure examination. This degree is conferred by The Graduate School.

The doctoral program is invested in training psychologists committed to cultural diversity and social justice issues. Students are exposed to the fundamental knowledge base in psychology, counseling psychology, and the program faculty’s areas of expertise (i.e., Multicultural Psychology, Vocational Psychology, and Prevention).

The program is based on the scientist-practitioner model of graduate education and training. The interdependence of the science and profession of psychology is emphasized in all aspects of the program.
