M.Ed. in Elementary Education (K-9 Endorsement)
The M.Ed. in Elementary Education is designed for individuals looking to make a difference in the lives of children. Graduates of the program will receive a Professional Educator License (PEL) with an elementary endorsement (grades K -5). An additional endorsement on the PEL is required to teach in grades 5-8. The program of study qualifies individuals for a middle-grade endorsement upon completion of an approved content area. The Elementary Education program is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and approved by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).
This is a full-time field-based program designed for individuals who are just entering the teaching field and require an initial teaching license. These candidates will complete the Teaching, Learning, Leading with Schools and Communities program. An integral component of the program is classroom experience. This allows individuals to become involved in educational experiences, including guided observations, interviewing students, teachers, parents, and community members, conducting small group or whole class instruction, and engaging with formal and informal educational communities.
