General Information

Why Rome in 2008?
All roads continue to lead to Rome as the center of culture and political events. Because of its importance throughout the development of Western culture, Rome provides an exceptional vantage point for considering the flow of history. For anyone who seeks to understand the cultural context for the work of schools, Rome is an essential experience. The School of Education is particularly fortunate that Loyola University Chicago's own John Felice Rome Center can provide students with comfortable accommodations and excellent facilities for study and exploration.

Why consider a two-week program?
The full liberal arts education promoted by Loyola calls for study at the Rome Center to enable students to better understand the present through historical roots and to more fully appreciate the culture of contemporary America through the experience of living abroad. Since many students cannot devote an entire academic year or even a full semester to study in Rome, the School of Education has developed a two-week program. During this program, students take a specially designed course that uses the Eternal City and its rich resources as a dynamic classroom.
