BS/MEd Five-year Degree in Biology and Secondary Education

Biology majors must declare their intention to enter the five-year program no later than the beginning of their junior year. A cumulative and major GPA of 3.0 or better is required to be admitted to the program. The student will take 14 hours of education courses between junior and senior years that will apply toward the 120 hours needed for the BS degree. Students, under the guidance of the Education Senior Academic Advisor, select a sequence of classes to be completed in their senior year. The number of courses can vary depending on the plan developed.

The student must pass the Illinois State Board of Education Test of Academic Proficiency prior to beginning the education courses and pass the Biology Content exam as admission for the MEd.

As students progress through this program, they compile a portfolio of their work to be presented at the completion of all coursework. Students begin the MEd immediately after graduation (Summer II) and continue for three consecutive semesters: Fall, Spring and Summer I.
