Teaching Philosophy:
I believe that the hard work of writing is necessary not only to express already formulated ideas but also to discover ideas and clarify thinking. Through the process of writing, we force ourselves to think through problems logically, thoroughly, and thoughtfully in order to clearly articulate our thoughts and communicate them to our audience. Therefore, both experienced and inexperienced writers benefit greatly from moving through the process of planning, drafting, revising, and editing. Writing can be intimidating because it is sometimes difficult and nearly always hard work, but dividing the work into stages helps writers manage time and achieve the distance from their writing necessary to communicate clearly and effectively to their readers.
