Graduate Pre-Semester Program

This pre-semester seminar is designed for international students who have been admitted to a graduate program at Loyola University Chicago and would like a comprehensive orientation as well as a review of academic English skills and expectations before they begin their graduate level coursework. The non-credit course meets Monday–Thursday from 9 a.m.–noon for two weeks prior to the start of the fall semester. The course is 2.0 units or $630 per student.

The goals of this program include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • To provide an orientation to the expectations and regulations of the university
  • To prepare students to be more confident and active participants in their courses
  • To further develop and practice communication and written skills through class discussions and activities
  • To focus on the US academic writing style and how to become better writers and self-editors
