Summer in Chicago 2010
SUMMER I: May 24 - JuLY 2
SUMMER II: JULY 6 - August 16

Summer is a time for studying, but it's also a time for some relaxation. And after a long Midwestern winter, Chicagoans really enjoy the beautiful, warm summer season. The Loyola neighborhood in Rogers Park is bustling with true Chicago life and culture. Surrounding the campus is a myriad of coffee shops, cafes, book stores, antique shops, restaurants, and markets.
Just a few steps off campus is Loyola Beach, a haven of rest and relaxation for college kids and neighborhood locals alike. Finally, on either side of campus are two El stops ready to whisk you north to the lively Evanston, south to the artsy Lincoln Park neighborhood, or all the way downtown to the heart of the city of Chicago.
Downtown Chicago is home to the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Art Institute of Chicago; Millennium Park, including the Cloud Gate sculpture by Anish Kapoor and the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, designed by Frank Gehry; the Field Museum of Natural History; Adler Planetarium; and Shedd Aquarium. In and around the loop are the theater district, with numerous film cinemas, opera houses, and theater houses, as well as parks, old Chicago restaurants, and an array of buildings featuring the classical architectural styles of such world-famous architects as Frank Lloyd Wright.

In the summer, you can enjoy many outdoor events:
- Taste of Chicago - 4th of July (Independence Day) Fireworks
- Chicago Festivals
- Millennium Park
- Navy Pier
The top-ranked Chicago Fire soccer team and two major-league baseball teams, the Chicago White Sox (World Series 2005 champions) and the Chicago Cubs, all play within minutes of Loyola's Lake Shore Campus. The Ravinia Festival, summer home to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, is a train ride away. Students may take advantage of free lawn passes to CSO concerts at Ravinia.
