Why should I sign-up for the EVOKE Ramble?
So many reasons!  The Ramble is a fun, free way to get to know a lot of exciting things about Loyola and Chicago.  In a short, ten-day period, you and your team will participate in a wide variety of activities, learn tons of fun facts about Loyola and Chicago, and compete to win fantastic prizes!  You will make some great memories with your new friends here and it will help to make Loyola and Chicago truly feel like home.

How does my group sign-up for the Ramble?
Go to the Registration link on the on the Ramble website.  This will take you directly to the sign-up form for your group.

Note: You will need to determine a team coordinator and SCVNGR user before you sign up.

How many people can I have on a team?
Teams can be made up of 3-5 first-year or transfer students.

What is the team coordinator responsible for?
The team coordinator is the main contact person for the team; if we need to contact your team or you need to contact us it should go through this person.  They are also the general “leader” for the group, making sure everyone from the group knows about and attends the events, treasures, and scavenger hunts.

What is the SCVNGR user responsible for?
This person is the leader for the scavenger hunt portion of the Ramble.  They will activate each trek and receive the questions on their phone.  They should ask for help from their team members in solving the challenges and visiting the trek locations.  However, as the SCVNGR user, they will be responsible for answering the questions and taking and sending any pictures during the treks.

NOTE: As the SCVNGR system runs through text messaging and standard data rates apply, it is encouraged that the SCVNGR user has an unlimited texting plan so the treks will not become costly to the individual.  It is also encouraged that the SCVNGR user has a smartphone with picture taking and email capabilities.  While it can work with any phone that can receive and send texts, for some clues pictures will need to be taken and sent to the evokeramble gmail account.  It is much easier if it can be done automatically from the phone.  SCVNGR is specifically designed for the iPhone and Droid cell phones and works best with those two systems giving locations and titles that other phones would not be able to receive.  Take this into consideration when your team is deciding who will be the SCVNGR user.

What are Treasures?
Treasures are Faculty or Staff members of Loyola who have volunteered to take 30 minutes out of their day to share something meaningful with a Ramble team.  This is a great way for you to connect with, and get to know, the faculty and staff at Loyola in a unique way outside the usual formal setting.  The treasures can share anything from their love of music or travel, to their favorite recipe for guacamole!

NOTE: Because these individuals have given up their time to be a Treasure, it is very important that you sign up for Treasures that AT LEAST 3 TEAM MEMBERS can definitely attend.  If your team misses a Treasure session you sign up for, your team will lose double points.

How does my team sign-up for Treasures?
At least one team member needs to come to the EVOKE office in CFSU Lower Level 42 to sign-up.  You can view descriptions, times, and locations of all the Treasures in the packet online and decide which Treasures your team finds most interesting and will be able to attend.  Once a team signs up for a timeslot, it will no longer be available, so choose the top 3-5 Treasure options with your team.  Sign-up early to get your top choices!

NOTE: You may sign up for as many Treasures as you like, but make sure AT LEAST 3 TEAM MEMBERS (and preferably, your whole team) can attend each of them.

What are Hidden Treasures?
Hidden Treasures are special Treasures that the time, location and person will be reveled throughout the Ramble via email.  What makes these Treasures so special is that the Faculty or Staff person is a high-profile individual at the university, such as President Fr. Garanzini, Vice-President Dr. Kelly, and others.  Hidden treasures are also worth double regular Treasures.  Every team will receive the email about a Hidden Treasure and the first group to respond saying they can attend will get to go to the Hidden Treasure event.
NOTE: If even one member of your team cannot make the time of the Hidden Treasure do not respond to the email because if you team wins the Hidden Treasure and then not everyone attends, your team will lose double points.

How do I get points for attending Treasures?
Your team will automatically get the points for attending the Treasure you signed up for at least 3 team members are present at the Treasure.  The Faculty/Staff person who is hosting your Treasure will contact us if the team does not show up.  If this happens, your team does not get the points for the Treasure and you will be deducted double points from your overall total.

How does my team sign-up for events?
The events that count for points during the week of the Ramble are posted on the “Events” link of the Ramble webpage.  For EVOKE events, there is a link on this page to sign-up online.  For other events, there are links to the event’s homepage and you can sign-up, if needed, from there.  Some events do not require a sign-up and you just need to attend the event.  To get the points for attending, take a picture with the your team members and the event clearly in the background.  Send the picture to evokeramble@gmail.com with your team name and the event name in the subject of the email by the end of the Ramble (Midnight on Sunday, October 2).

What is SCVNGR?
SCVNGR is an online system that EVOKE is using for the scavenger hunt portion of the Ramble.  It is a powerful game platform that allows us to create unique and dynamic treks all over Loyola’s campuses and the wider Chicago area.  It allows us to create a completely electronic scavenger hunt in which all you need to participate is a cell phone that can send and receive texts, has a camera, and preferably can send pictures via email.

How do we start each trek in SCVNGR?
After your team signs up for the Ramble, we will log the SCVNGR user’s cell phone number into our system.  Then when you are ready to start a trek on the appropriate day, your team needs to be at the starting location for each trek and text the keyword to the number: 728647 (SCVNGR) and it will send you the first question.  On the SCVNGR link on the Ramble website there is a schedule of what days you can do each of the treks, what the keyword is to text SCVNGR to start each of the treks and the location your team needs to be in to start. You will also receive a hard copy of the schedule with these FAQs when you sign up for your first Treasure. (NOTE: if you did not receive either the FAQs or the SCVNGR schedule you can ask for one at the EVOKE office).

Do you have to do certain treks on certain days?
Yes, and you can find which days and the start locations of those treks on the SCVNGR timeline on the SCVNGR tab of the Ramble site. You will also receive a hard copy of the schedule with these FAQs when you sign up for your first Treasure. (NOTE: if you did not receive either the FAQs or the SCVNGR schedule you can ask for one at the EVOKE office).

What should I do if there is a glitch in SCVNGR?
Unfortunately glitches do happen, as with any electronic technology. If it seems that it is taking an exceptionally long time to receive a question (more than 10 minutes) or you are at the correct location but SCVNGR is not acknowledging it, you can always reset their game by texting “QUIT”, waiting for the reply, then sending in the KEYWORD again. Your team will then be able to pick up where you left off.  If you are having an exceptionally difficult time and having a lot of glitches please email evokeramble@gmail.com right away or if it is during the business day come to the EVOKE office so that we can try to help you or address the problem with SCVNGR.

Where do I send the pictures taken for the SCVNGR treks, Treasures or Events?
We would love to have any pictures you may take during the EVOKE Ramble, and in many cases to receive points for SCVNGR questions or Events you need to send us your pictures.  We ask that you email or MMS the pictures for SCVNGR points to pics@scvngr.com. For pictures from Treasures or Events we ask that you email them to evokeramble@gmail.com. Please understand that any pictures we receive during the Ramble, may be used in future web or print material for marketing purposes.

When will we find out the results of the Ramble?
The week following the Ramble, the EVOKE staff will be tallying up the points and will announce the winner at the end of that week.

How much does my team need to participate in the Ramble to have a shot at winning?
As much as possible!  It is strongly encouraged that you participate in all of the SCVNGR treks and attend at least one or two Treasures and multiple events to stay competitive.  The more you can be involved during the Ramble period of Sept. 23rd – Oct. 2nd the better your team’s chances are at winning some fantastic prizes.
