About OnCall
OnCall is a one year discernment program for up to 30 students who have a deep interest in discovering their true desires, linking them with their talents, and using both to engage the world in which we live. Participants can expect to:
- Meet other students who are asking similar life questions
- Make new friends and support each other
- Learn about yourself and take part in your own development
- Meet people living authentic lives throughout the U.S.
- Have a lot of fun!
Loyola undergraduate students are encouraged to go OnCall during their sophomore or junior year. Students apply for the program during the spring semester of their first or sophomore year.
What OnCall students can expect from Evoke:
- 1-year curriculum that facilitates vocational exploration
- Supportive staff & mentors who are able to listen and offer advice
- Organized programs with a particular care to student development
- Sensitivity to the other demands placed on students' time
- A welcome, safe home to explore life questions
Who Can Apply?
Current first-year and sophomore students are encouraged to apply for this incredible experience. Students must be enrolled at Loyola University Chicago, have a minimum 2.5 GPA, and honor all of the program’s commitments.
How Much Does OnCall Cost?
Most of OnCall is free. Evoke covers almost all costs of the OnCall program, including retreats, speakers, special events, and workshops. Students who participate in the “Call of the Open Road” spring break trip are asked to contribute a nominal fee. However, Evoke is committed to ensuring that finances do not prevent students from participating. Scholarships are available on an individual basis. Please contact the Evoke team for details.
What is the OnCall Commitment?
The OnCall program provides the time and space for students to begin a personal journey of authentic living. Students’ participation in each of the program components is essential and expected.
*Students may elect to meet with a mentor or and Evoke staff member one-on-one throughout the course of the OnCall experience. While it takes more time, students have found these one-on-one meetings to be highly beneficial.
OnCall Curriculum Experiences
- Mentoring Relationships

In addition to large group experiences, small group and individual meetings with Loyola faculty/staff mentors create a safe environment for students to question, explore and listen to their lives. The small groups meet monthly and students can meet with their mentor individually as necessary.
- "Call of the Wild" Fall Retreat
This retreat gives OnCallers the opportunity to begin building relationships with each other and begin to explore their "interior wildnernss." At this retreat, students will participate in team-building activities, personal reflection, and will be introduced to tools for authentic discernment.
- Workshops
Throughout the year, various workshop sessions are offered exclusively for students in the OnCall program. Workshops include (but are not limited to) the two-part C-Saw Workshop where students discuss the meaning of their results from the Strong and Myers-Briggs Type Inventories, and the Enneagram workshop.
- "Call of the Open Road" Spring Break Trip
The Call of the Open Road Spring Break Trip is a week long road trip where small groups of students and Evoke staff members select individuals to interview across North America to learn about their life, their career path, and why they do what they do. This trip is modeled after the PBS television series, Roadtrip Nation.
- Special Audiences with Major Speakers
The Division of Mission and Ministry is often brings notable and distinguished speakers to Loyola’s campus. The Evoke staff works to create opportunities for the OnCall students to meet privately with these speakers where they can engage in meaningful dialogue with campus guests over a meal.
