Scope and Purpose

The class will show you how to best capitalize on the use of the Data Warehouse from novice introduction to rapid development. It’s designed with a proven framework and formula for success. The program allows team members of all levels of IS experience to quickly advance in their knowledge and application of the course content. It’s the fastest path from discovery to expertise in BI& DW to advance the company’s broader, cross-functional needs.

This week-long certificate program offers a comprehensive overview of Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence (DW & BI). The course framework successfully bridges business and IT areas. This course examines how data warehouses are used to successfully gather, structure, analyze, understand, and act on information stored within corporate data repositories. Emphasis will be placed both on design issues relating to Data Warehouses and on Business Intelligence techniques for extracting meaningful information. Strong focus on modeling ensures that every program participant acquires a deep and enduring understanding of the mission, nature, and components of the DW & BI projects and initiatives. Various cutting-edge tools and methods will be used to demonstrate the design, implementation, utilization, and value of Data Warehouses and BI applications.

Following the course, the participant will walk away with a greater sense of empowerment and knowledge as how he/she can best capitalize on the use of DW & BI and leverage the learning in order to create business value for the organization.
 

Topics Covered in This Program

Learning will be highly interactive and hands-on, emphasizing the skills and knowledge to apply to everyday business settings. Each session features exercises emphasizing the application and retention of the acquired knowledge.  Each participant will learn the need for integration, cross collaboration, and synergy within the field of Data Warehousing. 
  • Basic Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence concepts, processes, and terminology
  • Database, Data Mart, and Data Warehouse Modeling
  • Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) and End-User/BI Applications
  • Extraction, Transformation, Load (ETL) Process  
  • Data Warehouse Deployment, Use, and Growth
  • Other related issues, such as Data Warehouse Architecture Choices, Data Mining,  Master Data Management, Data Warehouse Metadata Management, Data Governance, and Trends in Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence.

Faculty

Nenad Jukic, PhD, Associate Professor at Loyola’s Graduate School of Business and Director of Graduate Certificate Program in Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence. Dr. Jukic conducts active research in various information technology related areas, including data warehousing/business intelligence, database management, e-business, IT strategy, and data mining. His work was published in a number of management information systems and computer science academic journals, conference publications, and books. In addition to his academic work, his engagements include providing expertise to a range of data management, data warehousing, and business intelligence initiatives for U.S. military and government agencies, as well as corporations that vary from startups to Fortune 500 companies.
