Program for 2007-2008:
GENDER & TECHNOLOGY

Our seminars this year explored a wide range of issues, including how video games are marketed to "moms" (that's anybody who isn't a gamer but who buys games), the use of games as part of the learning activity in a classroom, and the effect of technology on the gendering of health care.

All GRS events are held in the Gannon Center for Women and Leadership in Piper Hall (Lake Shore Campus) and are co-sponsored by the Gannon Center and the Women's Studies and Gender Studies Program.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Gender Seminar (GRS) at Loyola University Chicago is to advance knowledge and understanding of the role that gender plays in the structure and function of society. The seminar offers an interdisciplinary forum for the study of gender, its function in cultures and societies, and its intersection with a range of topics related to gender, including feminisms, masculinities, gay, lesbian, and transgendered sexualities, bisexuality, queer methodologies, and related issues of race, ethnicity, and class. The purpose of the seminar is to facilitate and expand such scholarship by creating networks among interested Loyola scholars and helping them them become aware of each others' work. Seminar meetings offer opportunities for colloquia in which these scholars can exchange their work and present it to others. The GRS especially welcomes work that bridges social sciences and the humanities and links those who work in different divisions and schools within the University.
