MASCULINITY & WARFARE

Participants

Azi Aalai, Social Psychology, working on war, failures of masculinity, and public perceptions of warfare.
Ben Penglase, Cultural Anthropology, working on drug wars and masculine identity in Brazil.
Jackie Long, Classical Studies, working on women warriors and identity in ancient Rome.
Allen Frantzen, English, working on World War I, heroic masculinity, and chivalry.

The presentations will be brief and informal (no papers will be read), and the seminar will focus on the results of and possibilities suggested by the conversations these scholars have had about their work, its intersections and its disciplinary divergence. Your participation in the discussion is welcome and is eagerly anticipated!

November 2006: Making a Gender Research Seminar Work
Leora Auslander
Professor of European Social History and the Founding Director of the Center for Gender Studies at the University of Chicago, will speak to the Gender Research Seminar. November 15, 2006, 3.30-5.00 p.m.

In addition, her homepage contains information about her publications and adminstrative experience.

In 1996, when she became the director of the Center for Gender Studies, Prof. Auslander was interviewed by a U of C publication. The interview is at this link.

Prof. Auslander has interests in women's history, Jewish history, and gender studies, a strong academic background, and extensive administrative experience in making gender studies work in conjunction with other research areas.
