THE  SECOND  BOOKE
of  Songs  or  Ayres
compoƒed by   JOHN  DOWLAND   Batcheler of Muƒick, and Luteniƒt to the King of Denmark.
London,  1600.

1Flow  my  teares  fall from your ƒprings,
Ex-ilde  for eu-er, let mee mourne,
Where nightes black bird hir ƒad in-fa-my ƒings,
There let mee liue    for  -  lorne. v. 2

2Downe vaine lightes ƒhine you no more,
No nightes are dark enough for thoƒe
That in diƒpaire their loƒt fortuns deplore,
Light doth but ƒhame diƒcloƒe.

3Neu-er may my woes  be  re-lieu-ed,
Since pit-tie is fled,
And teares and ƒighes and grones, my wea-rie dayes,
My wea-rie dayes  of all joyes haue de-pri-ued. v. 4

4From the higheƒt ƒpire of contentment
My fortune is throwne,
And feare and griefe and paine, for my deƒerts,
For my deƒerts are my hopes, ƒince hope is gone.

5Harke, you ƒha-dowes that in darck-neƒƒe dwell,
Learne to con-temne light,
Hap-pie, hap-pie they that in hell
Feele not the worlds   de  -  ƒpite. v. 6

6Harke, you ƒhadowes that in darckneƒƒe dwell,
Learne to contemne light,
Happie, happie they that in hell
Feele not the worlds deƒpite.
