The Van Der Nat family coat of arms goes back several centuries. The family stems from Flanders, and from 1655 to 1876 there was a family of Counts Van Der Nath, with the title of Graaf, that had noble domains in Holland, Germany (then Denmark), and Hungary. It was in 1655 that the Hapsburgh Emperor Ferdinand III of the Holy Roman Empire elevated three van der Nath brothers and their descendents in perpetuity to the rank of Count of the Holy Roman Empire. But already in the 13th century, in Flanders, the Van Der Nat family were prominent landholders. Various castles and manor houses that the family built, inherited, or bought still exist in Belgium, Germany, and Hungary. |
