Physics 477

This course is designed for teachers in the Chicago Public Schools who are interested in earning a middle school science endorsement. The goal of the course is to allow each teacher in the course to become a superb teacher of science. During the semester, we will focus on a number of basic concepts in physics, such as motion, energy, matter, force, electricity and magnetism. Math will be used to elucidate the concepts, and it is hoped that all participants will gain a greater appreciation of the role of math in describing the physical world.

Grading will be based on class participation, homework and in class assignments, a lesson plan, and a take home final.

The course meets every Thursday from 20 Jan to 7 April, except for 24 Feb and 24 March.

Your first assignment will be due at the beginning of class on 27 Jan. 2005.

Your second assignment will be due at the beginning of class on 3 Feb. 2005.

Your third assignment will be due at the beginning of class on 10 Feb. 2005.

Your fourth assignment will be due at the beginning of the class on 3 March 2005.

Your fifth assignment will be due at the beginning of the class on 10 March 2005.

Your sixth assignment will be to read chapters 32-34 in the text for 17 March 2005.

Your seventh assignment will be due at the beginning of class on 7 April 2005.
