I joined the political science department at
Loyola in August 2005 after earning my Ph.D. at the University of Michigan.
I conduct research on religiosity, elections,
guardianship and party politics in Iran
and Turkey and Kurdish nationalism.
The
themes I address in my scholarly work include: (1) the dynamics of
post-Islamist politics; (2) political attitudes of Muslim publics; (3)
the relationship between secularism, liberalism, and democracy; (4)
pockets of authoritarianism and cultures of impunity. I am teaching courses on politics of the Middle
East, Shi'ism, and politics of energy in spring 2008.
