Policies and Assessment


Grades will be based on:

Contributions to Class (the value you add to everyone's learning: thoughtful questions, pertinent answers, insight, logic, substance, and always courtesy - more than mere attendance)
  • Penalty for excessive absences (see below)

the Contribution component will have 2.5% deducted for each absence falling within the definition of excess (see below)
Writing Exercises 1 and 2 (building analytical and expository skills @ 5%) 10%
Writing Exercise 3 (further developing skills in analysis and argument) 7.5%
Writing Exercise 4 (the culminating written exercise) 12.5%
Collaborative Performances and associated short essays (cumulative: performances 5%, essays 10%) 15%
First in-class examination 15%
Second in-class examination 15%
Final examination 15%
The "midterm grade" will reflect the weighted average, pro-rated, of the components completed to date.
