The Authority of Jesus
Luke
24:46-49
He
told them, "This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise
from the dead on the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins will
be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses
of these things. I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but
stay
in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high."
Acts 1:5-8
For John baptized
with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit."
So when they met together, they asked him, "Lord, are you at this time
going to restore the kingdom to Israel?" He said to them: "It is
not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will
be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends
of the earth."
Matthew 28:18-20
Then
Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has
been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing
them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and
teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with
you always, to the very end of the age."
John 20:21-23
Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am
sending you." And with that he breathed on them and said, "Receive
the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you
do not forgive them, they are not forgiven."
