Early Drosophila Development

To the left is an animation showing early development in an insect embryo such as Drosophila. Note that in the beginning of development there are nuclear divisions (karyokinesis) without cytoplasmic divisions (cytokinesis) producing a syncitium. After 128 nuclei form (70 mins.), they start to migrate to the periphery of the embryo and then cellularization takes place producing the cellular blastoderm stage.
