| Meiosis is shown in the animation above. This hypothetical cell type has a DIPLOID chromosome number of 2N=4. Remember, each chromosome has 2 chromatids after the pre-meiotic S-phase. The first division of meiosis involves the segregation of homologous chromosomes. The second division of meiosis involves the separation of chromatids. After the 2 divisions of meiosis are complete, 4 daughter cells are produced each being HAPLOID 1N=2. (Please note: only one microtubule should be attached to each chromatid at the kinetochore.) |
