PRESENTER BIOGRAPHIES

LARRY D. HAUSE, JD is an attorney at Fredrikson & Byron and provides customized consulting services to families in business together. Larry is a Fellow with the Family Firm Institute and a member of The Attorney’s for Family-Held Enterprises. He is co-founder and teacher of The Board School, the nation’s first school for owners, directors and managers of family businesses and also co-authored the book The Balance Point: New Ways Business Owners Can Use Boards (2008 Famille Press).

PHIL CLEMENS is the chairman and CEO of Hatfield Quality Meats.  Phil Clemens' grandfather started the business in 1895 in Mainland, Pa., under the original name, Pleasant Valley Packing Company.  Today the Clemens Family Corporation, as it was named in 2000, employs 24 family members and has more than 200 family shareholders who own it.

JOHN D'ADDARIO III is the executive vice-president at J. D'Addario & Company, Inc.  He began working full-time at the company in 1996, when he started as a production manager.  He then took on the responsibility as the fretted instrument strings brand manager for several years before being promoted to director of worldwide sales.  During his five-year tenure in that post he guided the company's global sales from $52 million to $90 million.  In his new role, although he will continue to lead the company's sales effort, he will also be leading the company's strategic business planning.

IRIS H. CORNELIUS, Ph.D., received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Brown University, received an M.S. degree in Psychology from Howard University, and earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology form the University of Washington in 1973.  During the past 26 years, she has taught at the University of Minnesota, Macalester College and St. Catherine’s College in the Twin Cities.  She has been in private practice with systemic focus on the family and the organization.  She is currently affiliated with the American Psychological Association, The Family Business Alliance and the A.K. Rice Institute for the study of Authority, Leadership and Group Process.  She lectures nationally and internationally, conducts numerous seminars and has made radio/television appearances.  She is the author of many articles and book chapters.  Currently, she has developed a school enrichment and personal resilience program through her company, IAM Resources, the St. Paul public schools and St. John’s University.  She has served on several boards of directors, including the St. Paul Foundation, Minnesota Board of Law Examiners, and she was a Regent at St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota.  She also served on the Governor’s Judicial Selection Commission and the Minnesota Supreme Court’s Ethics Commission.

RENEE TOGHER joined Azteca full time after college.  Her first assignment was developing a food-service business targeting distributors, restaurants and schools.  But three months later her parents sold the business to Pillsbury.

Two years later, Pillsbury Co. made Azteca a plant instead of a subsidiary and eliminated Togher's job.  She left Azteca to sell Pillsbury products in Chicago, but "hated it," she said.  "There was a lot of cold calling."  Soon after, Pillsbury was purchased by Grand Metropolitan PLC, a British conglomerate.  And in 1989, Togher's parents, with a partner, repurchased their business from Grand Met and asked Togher to lead marketing.

That was the beginning of Togher's second career at Azteca.  In December, Togher, 46, was named President of Azteca Foods, one the the Midwest's largest Mexican food manufacturers, with more than 150 employees and annual revenue of more than $50 million.

MR. ARTHUR R. VELASQUEZ is the Chief Executive Officer of Azteca Foods Inc. since 1989.  Prior to that, Mr. Velasquez was the Founder of Azteca Corn Products Corporation in 1970 and served as its President and Chief Executive Officer.  He has been the Chairman of Azteca Foods Inc. since 1989.  Mr. Velasquez serves as the Vice Chairman of the Musuem of Science and Industry.  He serves on the Boards of Directors of LaSalle National Bank National Association, Chicago Metro Board of Junior Acheivement, the Maryville City of Youth, and serves on the Board of Trustees of the University of Notre Dame.

MEGHAN JUDAY, a next generation leader of the IDEAL Industries family, is currently the Family Council Chair and a director on the IDEAL Industries board.  In addition to her work with IDEAL, Meghan works for her husband's business, an automotive performance company, Helix Motorsports, where she does the bookkeeping and taxes.  Prior to Meghan's work with family businesses, she was a business analyst and project manager for several consulting firms in Philadelphia.  Meghan resides in Philadelphia with her husband and two young children.  Meghan is a graduate of St. John's College in Santa, Fe, NM.
