1. Who can be Nominated
This year’s competition is open to family-owned businesses headquartered in Illinois. Previous Illinois Family Business of the Year Award winners are not eligible.
2. Who can Nominate
Nominations can either be from an external source or self-nominations.
3. Categories
Awards are handed out in four major categories:

Large (more than 250 employees)
-
Medium (50-250 employees)
-
Small (less than 50 employees)
-
Community Service (businesses showing exemplary community service efforts
In addition, a Century Award is also presented by the Loyola University Chicago Family Business Center to highlight the success and longevity of a family business.
4. ENTRY PROCESS
Nomination Form
Nomination forms can be downloaded and mailed in or completed online. All Nomination forms must be received by Friday, June 29 at 5 p.m. CDT.
Application Form
Applications must be completed and submitted with entry materials by 5 p.m. CDT on Friday, July 27, 2011. Application forms from 2009, 2010 and 2011 remain active for 2012.
5. Judging
Applications are reviewed by a panel of Judges, including Loyola University Chicago faculty, past Illinois Family Business of the Year winners and corporate sponsor representatives. Judging is based on business growth and success, positive family-business linkage, multiple generation family business involvement, contributions to the community and industry, and innovative business practices and strategies. All decisions of the Judges and the Loyola University Chicago Family Business Center are final.
6. Nominees’ Reception
All nominees are invited to attend the Nominees’ Reception, taking place on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012. This informal reception provides the opportunity for nominees to meet and network with one another, as well as participate in round table's discussion.
7. Awards Gala
The winners of the Small, Medium and Large awards, along with the winner of the Community Service and Century awards, will be prsented during the Illinois Family Business of the Year Awards Gala taking place on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012 at The Four Seasons Hotel in Chicago.
