3 new Fulbright scholars

Latest news from IIE/Fulbright

In spring 2013, three Loyola students have been offered Fulbright awards!

Dana Elborno (not pictured) is currently a student in the Stritch School of Medicine, having earned her BA from Loyola in Islamic World Studies and Journalism in Spring 2010.  She will partner with the Jordan University of Science and Technology, in order to conduct a qualitative study on the development of type II diabetes mellitus among ex-Gazan refugees in Jerash Camp.  Her goal is to learn how the“temporary” socio-demographic status of being a refugee and the daily life stressors of the camp drive chronic disease acquisition.

Brenda McKinney (above right) is completing her JD this spring from the Loyola School of Law, and will be travelling to New Zealand to examine their youth justice system, specifically the country's use of Family Group Conferences (FGCs) to understand how they affect racial minorities.

Jessica Sanchez (above left) is also completing her JD this spring from the Loyola School of Law.  She will travel to Mexico to investigate the effect of leveling international law as it pertains to human rights with Mexico’s constitution, through an affiliation with Justice José Ramón Cossío Díaz of the Supreme Court, Attorney Selene Cruz Alcalá, and the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico City (ITAM).

We are very proud of this year's Fulbright students; we also wish to acknowledge the efforts of all students who applied, as well as the faculty and staff who served on our Fulbright campus review committees.
