Career & Internship Opportunities
Chicago offers numerous volunteer and internship opportunities for students interested in world cinema and film/video production. Loyola students have worked or interned at video post-production houses, local television network affiliates, network television productions, feature films, advertising agencies, public broadcasting and international film festivals.
Production Lab
International film and media studies students may edit films and video projects, as well as produce animations in a digital production and post-production lab that is open 24 hours a day. Students also have access to additional media production facilities, computer graphics and photography labs, performance spaces, 16mm film production equipment, high-end digital video cameras, lighting and sound equipment.
Film & Video in Chicago
The city of Chicago provides our set and studio. With a film history beginning in 1896, Chicago has been home to more than 900 feature films and television productions, as well as more than 50 film festivals including:
- Chicago International Film Festival
- Latino Film Festival
- Onion City Experimental Film and Video Festival
Both in size and recognition, Chicago's own independent film community is the fastest growing segment of the industry. The city is furnished with various resources for both filmmakers and film scholars such as:
- Gene Siskel Film Center, which presents significant world cinema
- Facets Multi-Media, a non-profit media arts organization which provides an extraordinary range of film and video programs
- IFP, which supports independent filmmaking and filmic diversity in American culture
- CAN-TV, which provides video training, equipment, facilities and channel time
LuCine
LuCine, an on-campus student organization, gathers weekly to create film festivals, hold lectures with working professionals, screen student films and explore Chicago's extensive film community.
