summer financial aid awards

Eligibility for summer financial aid is determined based on your current enrollment AND the assistance you received during the 2010-2011 academic year.   The information below will help you to understand the types of awards considered for you.

Undergraduate

Federal Stafford Loans

  • If you have not borrowed a Federal Stafford Loan this year and have been offered one for Summer, you need to complete a Master Promissory Note.  Click here for more information.
  • If you borrowed a Federal Stafford Loan during the year and were offered a loan for Summer, you need to complete a Master Promissory Note to have this loan processed for Summer.
  • If you are not awarded a Federal Stafford Loan for Summer, you borrowed the maximum during the academic year.

Reduce/Reject Direct Federal Stafford Loan

If you want to Reduce/Cancel the loan(s) offered, log into Locus and under 'View My Financial Aid Award', choose ACCEPT/DECLINE AWARD offered in the Summer 2011.

Allowance for Additional Summer Loans

The amount listed as [Allowance:Addl Loan-Summer] represents the maximum amount that you COULD borrow through a credit-based alternative or your parent could borrow through a Direct Federal PLUS Loan this summer.  This amount reflects the estimated direct and indirect costs associated with Summer 2011.  As an undergraduate student, these additional loans can be either Direct Federal PLUS Loans (borrowed by parents of dependent undergraduate students enrolled at least half-time for summer) or Alternative Loans (borrowed by the student, usually with a credit-worthy co-signer).

If you decide to apply for a loan, you can begin the application process now.  Loyola will be notified electronically by the lender if you are approved so that we may certify your eligibility for this loan.  You are encouraged to only borrow the amount that you actually determine that you need, rather than the maximum allowed.
