Finance Recognition Committee

COMMITTEE OVERVIEW

The Finance Recognition Committee (FRC) was formed after the results of the 2007 and 2010 Loyola University Faculty and Staff Survey both highlighted opportunities for growth in the areas of improving communications between departments within the Division (Teamwork category), and providing opportunities for employee recognition and feedback (Staff Supplement category).

PURPOSE

The Committee strives to find ways to bolster communication and teamwork and camaraderie across the Division, as well as honor and recognize the professional contributions and high-quality service of Financial Services Division staff.

COMMITTEE MEMBERS

The committee is comprised of 14 members, two from each of the following areas:

STAR AWARD CRITERIA

The Financial Services Quarterly S.T.A.R. award was developed by the Finance Recognition Committee as a peer recognition program that seeks to acknowledge individual Division staff members who meet the following criteria:

ELIGBILITY

All regular Financial Services Division staff members, full and part-time (20+ hours per week) are eligible to be nominated for the STAR Award, provided that they are on non-probationary status and in good standing with his/her respective department and University at the time of nomination.

NOMINATION

As a peer recognition initiative, any Financial Services Division employees may nominate themselves or a co-worker for the STAR Award.  Nominations will be accepted until the end of each fiscal quarter, or on September 30th, December 31st, March 31st and June 30th.  Exceptions will be made depending on the University holiday schedule.

Nominations may be made by completing the online nomination form, submitted via email to the Financenewsletter@luc.edu email box, or by filling out the form attached to the STAR award ballot box located in each of the Division areas listed above. All nominations should include specific, substantial, and current examples of the staff member's achievements and contributions that reflect the criteria and attributes of the STAR Award.

DETERMINING THE DEPARTMENT NOMINEES

At the end of the nomination period, Committee representatives from each area tally the ballots received.  The employee with the most ballots is selected as the department nominee and a review is conducted to confirm that the employee meets all eligibility requirements. In the event of a tie, the full Committee reviews and scores the ballots.

Scores are based on a qualitative review of the ballots, allowing up to 5 points per category (Service Oriented, Team Player, Always, Raising the Bar). An average score for each employee is then computed.  To ensure accuracy, at least two Committee members independently compute the average scores.  The employee with the highest average score is put forth as the department nominee after verifying this employee is in good standing with his/her respective department and the University. To avoid possible conflicts of interest, any Finance Recognition Committee members who are nominated will be excluded from voting.

DETERMINING THE STAR AWARD WINNER

The entire FRC reviews and scores the ballots of each department nominee.  Scores are based on a qualitative review of the ballots, providing up to 5 points per category (STAR) for a total possible score of 20 points.  An average score is then computed for each nominee. To ensure accuracy, at least two Committee members independently compute the average scores.  The department nominee with the highest score is selected as the STAR Award winner.  To avoid possible conflicts of interest, any Finance Recognition Committee members who are nominated will be excluded from voting.

PRESENTATION AND AWARD CEREMONY

The FRC will host a quarterly all Division staff meeting where the Department nominees and the Quarterly STAR Award recipient will be announced. The meeting location will alternate between the Lakeshore and Water Tower Campuses.  All Division employees are encouraged to attend.
