Stay Up Late at the All-Nighter
Go to the Stayin' Up Late All-Nighter 2008 on February 1 from 9 p.m. - 4 a.m. in Centennial Forum Student Union (CFSU). Enjoy laser tag, live band karaoke, a Guitar Hero contest, bingo, movies, a cartoonist, a mechanical bull, a performance by hypnotist Chris Carter and more. Celebrate Super Bowl Sunday at CFSU
The Chicago Bears may not be going all the way this year, but there's still a good time to be had! Come to CFSU and Zip's on February 3 at 2 p.m. to watch the New York Giants take on the New England Patriots. View the pre-game shows, enjoy free food and drinks, and participate in a football squares competition to win great prizes. Take Advantage of Business Month Career Panels
Attend one of several panels that will be held in February as part of Business Month. Loyola will host several panels featuring industry professionals who will provide students with summaries of their educational backgrounds, reflections on the current job market, information about different career paths and insight about what to expect after graduation. The panel schedule is as follows:

- February 19: Marketing/International Business/Sport Management Night
- February 20: Finance/Economics Night

Reserve Tickets for The Burial at Thebes
Plan to attend a production of The Burial at Thebes, which runs from February 7 - 17. Performances will be held in the Mullady Memorial Theatre at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday afternoons. Tickets are $15 for the general public; $10 for faculty, staff and alumni; $8 for students and seniors; and $6 for Loyola students with a student I.D. Find Out About Upcoming Career Events
Check out the "Call to Serve" Career Fair on February 7 from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. in the Gentile Center. Co-sponsored by the Career Development Center and University Ministry, this event gives Loyola students and alumni an opportunity to explore their calling to be of service to the world. Participating organizations include a wide variety of non-profit groups (secular and religious), traditional employers and postgraduate volunteer service programs for both full-time job and internship opportunities. Participate in Mock Interviews, which will be held February 19 - 21 in the Sullivan Center, Room 295. Practice your interviewing skills in a 30-minute mock interview with company recruiters and employer representatives to receive expert feedback on your interview style and resume. Students must register to participate in this event by logging into eRecruiting, selecting "Individual Schedules" in the calendar box, choosing "Loyola University Chicago: Mock Interviews" and uploading a resume into the "Documents" section.
Purchase Tickets for the Gala di San Valentino
Get tickets for the Gala di San Valentino, which will be held February 8 from 8 p.m. - midnight at the Drake Hotel. Buses will depart from Loyola on the East side of the Gentile Center at 7:30 p.m. on the night of the event. Dinner will be provided, and semi-formal attire is required. Tickets cost $20 for singles and $30 per couple, and are currently on sale at the CFSU Info Desk. This event is sponsored by the Italian Club and cosponsored by the French Club and Student Activity Fund. Save the Date for Summer Sessions Registration
Figure out what classes you'd like to take this summer and prepare for registration beginning February 11. Also, consider studying abroad in one of several countries, including France, Spain and Tunisia. Or, go to the Rome Center or The Beijing Center. Apply as soon as possible, as programs may fill early, but no later than March 14. For more information about study abroad, visit: LUC.edu/studyabroad/summer.shtml. You may also check with your school or college for other summer study abroad opportunities.
Tell high-school sophomores or juniors that they can earn college credit early with Loyola's new Pre-Collegiate Summer Scholars program. More information is available at: LUC.edu/summerscholars.
Be Aware of Graduation Fees
During the month of January, the Bursar's office will assess a $60 fee to undergraduate students who have earned 90 credit hours and are approaching graduation. The graduation fee covers the cost of the diploma and cover, program expenses, mailing fees and other incidental expenses associated with graduation. All graduates are listed in the commencement program must pay the fee, regardless of attendance at the ceremony. For more information, go to: LUC.edu/bursar/grad_fee.shtml.
Apply to the Catalyst Leadership Program
Apply before February 15 to take part in the Catalyst Leadership Program. This event, happening on February 23 from 9:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. in Coffey Hall's McCormick Lounge, will help you:
- Discover what it means to take your own path in life.
- Examine how your interests and values align with your actions.
- Learn how to connect with and contribute to organizations you care about.
- Challenge yourself and your organizations to create new opportunities.
- Design an action plan for being a catalyst in your personal and professional life.
- Plan to make a positive impact on the world.
Admission to the Catalyst Program is free, but space is limited to 60 people. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Prepare for the Room Reapplication Process
Look for on-campus housing applications and contracts in campus mailboxes on February 14, along with reapplication information packets. A non-refundable $500 deposit must be submitted with your housing contract in the form of a check or money order made out to Loyola University Chicago.
Loyola requires all unmarried undergraduate students under the age of 21 to live on-campus during their first two years, unless they reside at home with a parent or legal guardian. All current freshmen seeking exemption from the residency requirement must complete a Request for Exemption form and submit it to the Department of Residence Life.
Sophomores may live in Baumhart, Fairfield, Fordham, Georgetown, Holy Cross, Marquette, Rockhurst, Seattle or Xavier Hall. Juniors and seniors are not required to live on campus, so there is no need to apply for an exemption from the housing requirement. Upper-class students intending to live on campus can live in Santa Clara, Fordham, Baumhart or Holy Cross Hall. Room selection will be made in order of lottery numbers.

Attend the First-Generation Dinner
Participate in the First-Generation Dinner on February 21 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at 25 E. Pearson, Suite 1255. Cosponsored by the Office of First-Year Experience, Alumni Relations and the Department of Student Diversity and Multicultural Affairs, this dinner will connect first-generation college students with Loyola alumni who were the first in their families to graduate from college. Become a Summer Orientation Leader
The Office of Student Activities and Orientation is seeking orientation leaders for Summer 2008. As the student leaders for Discover Loyola, Loyola's summer orientation program, orientation leaders help prepare first-year and transfer students for their transition to Loyola. The team also assists during Welcome Week and participates in the planning, implementation and evaluation of all related activities and programming.

Submit Applications for LULAB Scholarships
Apply for one of three Loyola University Latino Alumni Board (LULAB) scholarships by March 17. The Enrique "Rick" Guerrero Scholarship is open to undergraduate students who have demonstrated significant academic accomplishments and service to the Loyola and/or Latino community. The Jose Jamie Esparza Graduate/Professional School Scholarship is open to high-achieving students enrolled in graduate or professional school. The Eric Solorio Scholarship is open to undergraduate and graduate students who have demonstrated significant academic accomplishments and are pursuing careers in law enforcement. Enter the Student Promise Video and Essay Contests
Submit a video or essay that brings Loyola's Student Promise to life! The Student Promise was drafted by a committee consisting primarily of students and is intended to unite all students around the characteristics that set Loyola students apart from students at other institutions. The Student Promise is a symbol of empowerment, pride and personal accountability. To read the full text of the Student Promise, visit: LUC.edu/thestudentpromise.
Create a short video that creatively captures the spirit and voice of the student body as evident in the Student Promise. Videos should be three to five minutes in length and must be submitted on mini DV or DVD. All footage must be of reasonably high resolution. Compressed files for Web use will not be accepted. Entries must be received by March 14. Judges will rate the videos on creativity, production, editing quality, originality and overall excellence in illustrating the Student Promise. Write an essay on one of three topics about Loyola's Student Promise. Essays must be typewritten and double-spaced. All entries must be received by March 19. Learn About Undergraduate Research Opportunities
Participate in the Loyola Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (LUROP), which administers all undergraduate research opportunities at Loyola. Undergraduate research distinguishes students for future opportunities in graduate or professional school, as well as potential career opportunities. LUROP participants:
- Build relationships with faculty mentors in their field of study and participate in faculty research projects.
- Learn how research skills may be applied to solve real world problems.
- Acquire knowledge and skills that prepare them for graduate school.
- Publish and/or present findings at academic conferences.

The Wellness Center invites freshmen male students who drink alcohol to participate in Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students (BASICS), an individual program that helps students find ways to experience less of the "not so good" things about drinking. BASICS gives personalized feedback about your drinking without telling you what to do. Students will receive a $25 Best Buy gift card after completing two confidential 50-minute BASICS sessions.
