Apply for Financial Assistance
Loyola's Office of Student Financial Assistance (OSFA) strongly encourages students to apply for financial assistance for the upcoming academic year this weekend, if possible, to meet Loyola's March 1 financial assistance priority application date. Students who do not meet this priority date should still apply for assistance, but they may only be considered for campus-based assistance as funds are available.
To submit the FAFSA online, you will need either a completed FASFA on the Web Worksheet or your completed 2007 federal tax return. (If you haven't filed your 2007 tax return yet, use your 2006 tax return.) You will also need all of your W-2 forms, interest statements, and any other necessary bank or asset account statements. To learn more about filing the FAFSA online, go to: LUC.edu/finaid/steps_file_FAFSA.shtml. If you need help, call the Hub at: 773.508.7700.
If you or your family has extraordinary financial circumstances that are not evident in the FASFA information (i.e., recent job loss, excessive medical expenses, private elementary or high school tuition), you can submit a Special Circumstance Appeal to request that OSFA review your specific situation. Appeal forms are available at: LUC.edu/finaid.
For more information, e-mail OSFA at: lufinaid@luc.edu.

Fill Out a Survey on Socially Responsible Investing
Take part in an online survey about socially responsible investing (SRI). In 2006, Loyola's Board of Trustees responded to students and other members of the Loyola community who expressed concerns about the university's holdings in companies and their role of capital in creating financial and society value. The Shareholder Advocacy Committee (SAC) was established in Spring 2007 to deliberate SRI issues confronting the university as an investor. SAC will engage with companies—through an approach centered on advocacy—in discussions concerning their practices and policies (i.e., letters of concern, inquiries); join forces with other like-minded advocacy groups in initiatives to effect positive change; advise on the voting of the university's shares; and serve the university as a resource for information on social responsibility and corporate governance.
SAC is currently working on developing an agenda and initiatives for the upcoming year, and seeks input from the Loyola community on areas of SRI concern to help guide focus and initiatives on issues that may pertain to the university's investments. Please complete the SRI survey, available at: https://surveys.luc.edu/opinio5/s?s=7810. This survey will be posted until March 5 at 5 p.m., and the results will be shared at SAC's first community meeting on April 3.
To learn more about SAC, visit: LUC.edu/sac.

Students who need assistance registering under the new system should contact ResNet at extension 4-RNET (on campus); or call: 773.508.7500 (off campus). ResNet will be available on March 9 from 4 p.m. - 12 a.m. in the Information Commons for students to bring in their computers and receive assistance. No appointments are necessary. For more information about technology at Loyola, visit: LUC.edu/its.

Get Safety Information and Tips
Enjoy the upcoming Spring Break and review these important safety tips, which are especially important for travelers:
- Be aware of pickpockets. Theft can occur anywhere at anytime, and usually when you least expect it. Keep your belongings close to you at all times and avoid carrying large amounts of cash.
- Keep important items like health insurance cards and allergy bracelets with you in case of an emergency.
- Never leave your beverages unattended. Be responsible and always be aware of the amount of alcoholic beverages you consume.
- Keep phone numbers of local cab companies handy. Make sure you always have enough emergency cash with you in case you get lost or sick, or need to get home on your own.
- Trust your instincts. If you feel uncomfortable with a situation, tell your friends and rely on your gut feeling.
When you return to campus, plan to attend the Safety Summit on March 12 from 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. - 9 p.m. in the lobby of CFSU. Sponsored by Unified Student Government Association, Community Relations and Campus Safety, this event will give students the opportunity to talk with officers about safety concerns.
