    Register for Summer Sessions

Registration for Summer Sessions begins Monday, February 11. Choose from more than 250 courses offered in four convenient sessions. To find out your registration time, view the enrollment appointment schedule at: LUC.edu/summer/accessschedule.shtml. Also, consider studying abroad in one of several countries, including France, Spain and Tunisia. Or, go to the Rome Center or The Beijing Center. Apply as soon as possible, as programs may fill, but no later than March 14. For more information about study abroad, visit: LUC.edu/studyabroad/summer.shtml. You may also check with your school or college for other summer study abroad opportunities.

Tell high-school sophomores or juniors that they can earn college credit early with Loyola's new Pre-Collegiate Summer Scholars program. More information is available at: LUC.edu/summerscholars.

Fill Out a Survey on Socially Responsible Investing

Take part in an online survey about socially responsible investing (SRI). In 2006, Loyola's Board of Trustees responded to students and other members of the Loyola community who expressed concerns about the university's holdings in companies and their role of capital in creating financial and society value. The Shareholder Advocacy Committee (SAC) was established in Spring 2007 to deliberate SRI issues confronting the university as an investor. SAC will engage with companies—through an approach centered on advocacy—in discussions concerning their practices and policies (i.e., letters of concern, inquiries); join forces with other like-minded advocacy groups in initiatives to effect positive change; advise on the voting of the university's shares; and serve the university as a resource for information on social responsibility and corporate governance.

SAC is currently working on developing an agenda and initiatives for the upcoming year, and seeks input from the Loyola community on areas of SRI concern to help guide focus and initiatives on issues that may pertain to the university's investments. Please complete the SRI survey, available at: https://surveys.luc.edu/opinio5/s?s=7810. This survey will be posted until February 29 at 5 p.m., and the results will be shared at SAC's first community meeting on April 3.

To learn more about SAC, visit: LUC.edu/sac.

Go to a Power Reading Session

Attend one of the Power Reading Sessions being held February 11 - 15 from 12 p.m. - 1 p.m., 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. and 2 p.m. - 3 p.m. in Bremner Lounge. Power Reading Sessions will help you increase your reading speed and comprehension for general studying and test preparation. Admission to the sessions is free. To learn more, e-mail Mary Cashman at: mcashm2@luc.edu.

Connect with Loyola University Programming Board

Attend a general board meeting of the Loyola University Programming Board (LUPB) on February 11 at 4:30 p.m. in Bremner Lounge. LUPB is the programming section of Unified Student Government Association (USGA), and all LUPB events are planned and staffed by Loyola students. Stop by the board meeting to learn more about LUPB and to have your programming ideas heard. For more information, contact Nigel Vilches at: nvilche@luc.edu.

Support the Bike and Build Fundraiser

Go to the Bike and Build Fundraiser on February 12 from 5 p.m. - 10 p.m. at Carmen's Chicago Pizza, located at 6568 N. Sheridan Rd. Two Loyola seniors are participating in a cross-country bike ride this spring and helping to build houses along the way to raise awareness and money for affordable housing. The fundraiser will offer great food and a raffle for various prizes including free bike tune-ups, helmets and restaurant gift certificates. Raffle tickets are available for $2 each, or three for $5. To purchase raffle tickets in advance, e-mail Laura Sienas at: lsienas@luc.edu; or Lisa Reitz at: lreitz@luc.edu. For more information about Bike and Build, visit: www.bikeandbuild.org.

Prepare for the Room Reapplication Process

Look for on-campus housing applications and contracts in campus mailboxes on February 14, along with reapplication information packets. A non-refundable $500 deposit must be submitted with your housing contract in the form of a check or money order made out to Loyola University Chicago.

Loyola requires all unmarried undergraduate students under the age of 21 to live on-campus during their first two years, unless they reside at home with a parent or legal guardian. All current freshmen seeking exemption from the residency requirement must complete a Request for Exemption form and submit it to the Department of Residence Life.

Sophomores may live in Baumhart, Fairfield, Fordham, Georgetown, Holy Cross, Marquette, Rockhurst, Seattle or Xavier Hall. Juniors and seniors are not required to live on campus, so there is no need to apply for an exemption from the housing requirement. Upper-class students intending to live on campus can live in Santa Clara, Fordham, Baumhart or Holy Cross Hall. Room selection will be made in order of lottery numbers.

For more information about the Room Reapplication process, visit: LUC.edu/reslife.

Submit Applications to the Catalyst Leadership Program
