Note Shuttle and 8-Ride Service Schedules
Campus shuttle service will begin operation for the Spring 2008 semester on January 14, with a 7 a.m. pick-up from the Water Tower Campus and a 7:30 a.m. pick-up from the Lake Shore Campus. Final shuttles will depart from both campuses at midnight. The shuttle operates Monday - Friday during the regular academic year when classes are in session.
8-Ride service will begin on January 12 at 6:30 p.m. 8-Ride operates from 6:30 p.m. - 2:15 a.m., seven days a week, during the regular academic year when classes are in session.

Attend the Grand Opening of Information Commons
Visit the new Information Commons during the grand opening celebration January 14 - 16 and enjoy special events and giveaways. Beginning January 14, Information Commons will offer students large individual and group study spaces, state-of-the-art technology with 222 computer workstations, wireless Internet connections, digital media lab and a lakefront café (opening soon).
Stop by the Information Commons during the grand opening to learn more about this new facility and its special features, and to enjoy activities and prizes.

- Doors open at 7 a.m. with giveaways for the first 75 students (also Tuesday and Wednesday mornings)

Apply for Student Parking Permits
Loyola students may apply for resident or commuter parking permits. Commuter students may apply for a parking permit online at: LUC.edu/parking/commuter_students.shtml.
Resident parking on campus is very limited and applications are open only to students living in an on-campus residence hall. To apply for a resident parking permit, students must enter a lottery at: LUC.edu/parking/residentstudent.shtml. Resident permits will only be given to students who enter and win the permit lottery. Freshmen must provide proof of a special circumstance requiring a vehicle in order to be eligible for resident parking.
Parking permits will be available for pick-up January 14 - 17 from 8 a.m. - 10 p.m. in the parking office (located in the main parking structure). Students must display their Campus Card (student I.D.) in order to claim their permit.

Meet with Academic Advisors
The Office of Academic Advising and Services (OAAS) is offering walk-in advising assistance January 12 - 13 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and January 14 - 18 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. New and readmitted students should schedule advising appointments by calling: 773.508.3770. Non-enrolled students must register for at least one class by January 21 in order to enroll for the semester. OAAS is located at the Lake Shore Campus in the Sullivan Center for Student Services, Room 260. Regular office hours during the Spring Semester are as follows:
- Monday - Thursday: 8:30 a.m. - 8 p.m.
- Friday: 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.

The School of Business Administration is offering walk-in advising hours January 14 - 18 from 8:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. in Maguire Hall, Room 220. The School of Education advisor will meet with students on a walk-in basis during the first week of school. Walk-in advising hours are available at the Water Tower Campus on January 14, 17 and 18 from 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. - 4 p.m. in Lewis Towers on the 11th floor. Advising is also available at the Lake Shore Campus January 15 - 16 from 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. - 4 p.m. in Mundelein Center, Room 305. Stop By the Renovated Halas Sports Center
After extensive renovations, the refurbished Halas Sports Center is kicking off 2008 by celebrating its 25th anniversary through January 25.
- Stop by Halas to work out, meet new people and have a good time. Membership at Halas is included in all full-time undergraduate student fees, so be sure to check out everything the facility has to offer: cardio and variable-resistance machines, a swimming pool, free weights, basketball and volleyball courts, and saunas. Numerous group fitness and non-credit instructional classes are offered weekly.
- See the new facilities, including a renovated main office and lobby, redesigned men's and women's locker rooms, expanded cardio rooms with new equipment, a new spin studio, and a new Pro Shop with sports merchandise and equipment rental.

Waive Out of Student Health Insurance
All undergraduate students enrolled in 12 or more credit hours and all graduate and professional students enrolled in eight or more credit hours (or registered for thesis or dissertation supervision) are required to have individual health care insurance. New and transfer students will be automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance plan and be charged $1,221. Health insurance coverage is valid from January 1 - July 31. If you already have a health insurance policy in place, you must complete a waiver to opt out of Loyola's plan and avoid unwanted charges to your student account. The deadline for waiving out of the plan varies by student classification. For more information or to complete the online waiver, visit: LUC.edu/bursar/insurance.shtml.
Complete Charge Authorization Forms
Charge Authorization Forms allow students to add Rambler Bucks to their Campus Cards in order to purchase textbooks at the Loyola bookstore. Students may add up to $600 to their Campus Card per semester. This charge is added to the student's account and must be paid in full along with all other tuition and fees. Please note that only one form per semester will be accepted. Charge Authorization Forms for the Spring Semester will be accepted through January 25 at 5 p.m. The forms are available at: LUC.edu/campuscard/forms.shtml.
Request Meal Plan Changes
Get a different meal plan for the Spring Semester by completing a Change Request Form. These forms allow students to change the meal plan requested on their housing contracts. Resident students must comply with the guidelines of their status and housing assignments, but are encouraged to submit the form if they wish to change their meal plan. Non-resident students may purchase any meal plan and have the cost charged to his or her student account. Resident Meal Plan Change Request Forms will be accepted for upgrades through January 25 at 5 p.m. Non-resident Meal Plan Request Forms will be accepted through March 15. Participate in the Ecumenical Prayer Service
Attend an ecumenical prayer service on January 15 at 4 p.m. in Madonna della Strada Chapel. This service will celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr., who rooted his life in the writings of the Hebrew prophets and in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Go to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration
Attend the Dreaming of Justice: Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration on January 23 at 5:15 p.m. in Galvin Auditorium. The event will feature guest speaker Judge Greg Mathis, star of the television show Judge Mathis. Mathis is a former street youth and high-school dropout whose misbehavior eventually brought him before a judge. The judge ordered Mathis to get a GED or face jail time. Mathis obtained his GED and went on to become a committed civil rights activist, public servant and the youngest elected judge in the state of Michigan. The Center for Experiential Learning (CEL) is sponsoring the following new elective courses beginning in Spring 2008:
UNIV 290 - 001: Seminar in Community-based Service and Leadership (Lake Shore Campus, Wednesdays from 4:15 p.m. - 6:45 p.m., Class #5704)
UNIV 390 - 001: Internship Seminar: Organizational Change and Community Leadership (Lake Shore Campus, Thursdays from 4:15 p.m. - 6:45 p.m., Class #5705)
Students enrolled in these seminars will work closely with CEL staff to select off-campus community sites and internship placements to complement both in-class course content and students' coursework in any field of study. Plan Ahead to Study Abroad in Rome
All students interested in studying at Loyola's John Felice Rome Center are advised to attend a Rome Information Session. Students will learn more about the program, find out about application procedures, hear from an alum and enjoy some Italian snacks.

Students can purchase stamps and envelopes, send or receive faxes and watch for student organization ticket sales. The Information Desk is your resource for answers, directions and help.

Check out Zipoli's, located in the lower level of CFSU. It's a great spot for students to relax and do homework, play pool or ping-pong, enjoy video games, or watch TV. Zip's always offers something fun for students to do. Look for upcoming events on calendars posted throughout the Student Center.
Water Tower Campus: The Terry Student Center, located on the third floor of Baumhart Hall, allows students to purchase stamps and envelopes, send or receive faxes and watch for student organization ticket sales. The lounge area features three plasma televisions, pool and ping-pong tables, and seven computer stations. The Terry Student Center also provides students with 24-hour study space Sunday - Thursday in Rooms 303 and 304.
