Protect Yourself from Theft
The most common crime on college campuses is theft, which usually occurs when people least expect it. Check out these theft prevention tips:
- Keep small, valuable items like cash and jewelry locked in a safe spot. Do this in your dorm room and also at the gym.
- Avoid leaving personal property such as purses, book-bags, iPods or laptops unattended in libraries, study areas, restrooms or classrooms.
- If you have a broken lock on your windows or doors, inform your Resident Assistant or landlord right away.
- Zip up your purse and book-bag. An open bag in plain view is inviting to petty thieves.
- Be aware of your surroundings wherever you are: on campus, in the neighborhood or around the city.
