    Register for Fall 2007: Tips to Prepare

    Registration for Fall 2007 begins Monday, April 16, for undergraduate students. Check LOCUS to see if you have any holds on your account, which may prevent you from registering for classes. To view your holds, log into LOCUS and click on "Holds" under "Personal Portfolio." Check the access schedule to find out when you can register at: www.luc.edu/academics/schedules.

    For first-year students, sophomores, juniors and transfer students in the College of Arts and Sciences and for first-year students and sophomores in the Schools of Business, Education, Nursing and Social Work, the Office of Academic Advising and Services will hold special walk-in advising hours for registration-related questions. These extended walk-in hours are:

    Monday, April 16, 9 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.
    Tuesday, April 17, 9 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.
    Wednesday, April 18, 9 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.; 3 - 4:45 p.m.

    Comment on Loyola's Ethos Statement

    Share your thoughts and ideas about Loyola's Ethos Statement by completing an anonymous survey by Monday, April 16. The Ethos Statement is a document outlining the standards to which students are held accountable. The Ethos Statement Review Committee is revising the statement to better represent students.     Talk Tech with ITS

    Information Technology Services (ITS) invites all Loyola students to participate in a focus group on Monday, April 16, at 4 p.m. in Granada West Conference Room, Granada Center, Lake Shore Campus. ITS is interested in gathering student input about particular technologies, experiences and services, including the following:

  • Personal storage
  • Use of Macs and PCs
  • Social networking tool (MySpace, blogs, Wikis, etc.)
  • Student communications (cell phones, messaging and other technologies)

    Pizza and beverages will be provided, and participants will also receive other items for their participation.     Attend the Chapel Lecture Series

    Listen to Susan A. Ross, Ph.D., speak as part of the Chapel Lecture Series on April 16 at 4 p.m. in Kasbeer Hall. In her presentation, "Steps Toward Reconciliation: Justice and the Voices of Women," Ross will focus on how divisions in the contemporary world might be better addressed by considering the lives of women. There will be an opportunity for questions and a reception following the presentation. Admission is free. For more information, call: 773.508.2089.

    UPDATE: See Motion City Soundtrack and John Adams IV (Gym Class Heroes Canceled)

    Loyola's Spring Concert on Tuesday, April 17, at the Gentile Center, Lake Shore Campus, will feature Motion City Soundtrack and John Adams IV. The group Gym Class Heroes, which was originally scheduled to perform, has pulled out of the show. Students wishing to refund their tickets must visit the CFSU Information Desk by April 20. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for the 7 p.m. concert. Tickets are: $5 for Loyola students, faculty and staff (limit one ticket per Loyola ID); and $15 for the general public. Tickets are on sale at the CFSU Information Desk, Lake Shore Campus; at the Terry Student Center, third floor, Water Tower Campus; or online at: www.luc.edu/orgs/club. The event is sponsored by the Campus Life Union Board and Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, and funded through the Student Activity Fund.

    Vote in Student Government Elections

    Choose your next student government representatives by voting in the student government elections on April 18 - April 19. Log into LOCUS to submit your votes for student officers and also help select a new name for Unified Student Government (USG). Results of the election will be announced April 20.     April 19
    One in four college women experiences sexual assault or attempted assault. One-fourth of Loyola women will wear black and a "One in Four" sticker on April 19 to represent this statistic on campus.

    Self-Defense Seminar for Women
    4 p.m., Wellness Center
    Learn effective self-defense techniques in this hour-long seminar.

    Participate in an Open Forum on Sexual Harassment

    Did you know that sexual harassment can come from anyone regardless of gender, sexuality or age? Get the facts you need to prevent and combat sexual harassment by attending an open forum on April 19 at 5 p.m. in the Simpson Multipurpose Room. Panelists will discuss defining and identifying sexual harassment in academic and professional environments; combating sexual harassment, including lodging formal or informal complaints; and various resources and counseling options available for dealing with sexual harassment. Scheduled panelists include:

  • Ann Marie Morgan, Associate Dean of Students, Loyola University Chicago
  • Danielle Rossi, Investigator, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)

    Learn About Eating Disorder Awareness

    Listen to college student and author Leslie Lipton recount her personal battle with anorexia on April 20 at 3 p.m. in the Crown Center Auditorium. Lipton's story offers valuable insight into why some young women engage in compulsive behavior that is damaging to the body and spirit. This free presentation is open to all students.     Register for Career and Life Planning Lab
    Take Career and Life Planning Lab (Counseling Psychology, CPSY 224) during Fall 2007. This two credit-hour course teaches a process that can be applied to making career-related decisions throughout your life. Participants in this class: complete a battery of self-assessment tests that clarify personal interests, values, skills and personality traits; conduct an in-depth investigation of an occupation; develop a plan of action designed to integrate information gathered about the world of work with your self-assessment results; and learn skills necessary to conduct an effective job search.

    Focus on Children's Issues

    The Center for the Human Rights of Children will host a seminar on "The Rights of Children in Situations of War and Political Violence" on Wednesday, April 25, 3 p.m. - 5 p.m., in Crown Center Auditorium, Lake Shore Campus. The seminar will focus on the impact of war and political violence on children in Iraq, and feature a video on the impact of the 1991 Gulf War, along with discussions about the current situation. Presenters include Center Director James Garbarino, who conducted an assessment of the 1991 war on children in Iraq for UNICEF, and Professor Gunes Tezcur, Peace Studies Program. The seminar is free and open to all Loyola students and faculty. Refreshments will be served.
