No Shuttle Service on Labor Day
There will be no shuttle service on September 3 due to the Labor Day holiday. Shuttle service will resume September 4 with a 7 a.m. pick-up from Water Tower Campus and a 7:30 a.m. pick-up from Lake Shore Campus. 8-Ride service will be available from 6:30 p.m. - 2:15 a.m. throughout the holiday weekend.
Celebrate Your Calling During EVOKE Week
Take part in fun events during EVOKE Week, September 4 - 7. EVOKE (Encouraging
Vocation Through Knowledge and Experience) is a campus-wide initiative that encourages students to discover their own personal callings. During EVOKE Week, students, faculty and staff join together for different events and activities including EVOKE Jam, inspirational luncheons and enrichment programs. Volunteer at the Loyola Community Literacy Center
Sign up to tutor at the Loyola Community Literacy Center and perform a valuable service for the people of Rogers Park. The Literacy Center is an outreach service project of Loyola's Department of English and College of Arts and Sciences that provides one-on-one tutoring to adults seeking to develop their English skills. Literacy Center tutors consist primarily of Loyola students who are either volunteering or earning one to three credit hours by enrolling in Honors 290 or 291, or English 393. No experience is necessary. Staff members train student tutors, and at least two staff members are available at all times to assist tutors during their sessions.
The Literacy Center is located at 6576 N. Sheridan Road. Tutoring sessions take place on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 7 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Tutors must make a semester-long commitment to tutor one or two evenings per week. All prospective tutors must attend one orientation session at the Literacy Center. Participate in the AIDS Walk and Run Chicago
Join members of the Loyola community and take part in the AIDS Walk and Run Chicago on September 15. Check-in begins at 8 a.m., the 5K run begins at 9:55 a.m. and the 5K walk begins at 10 a.m. All participants will meet at the Loyola tent in Grant Park near the intersection of Columbus and Balbo. Complete Charge Authorization Forms
Charge Authorization Forms allow students to add Rambler Bucks to their Campus Cards in order to purchase textbooks at the Loyola bookstore. Students may add up to $600 to their Campus Card per semester. This charge is added to the student's account and must be paid in full along with all other tuition and fees. Please note that only one form per semester will be accepted. Charge Authorization Forms for the Fall Semester may be submitted through September 7. Take Part in the Neighborhood Bike Ride
Join Loyola students, faculty, staff and community members for a bike ride on September 9 from 2 p.m. - 7 p.m. Enjoy biking through the Rogers Park and Edgewater neighborhoods, followed by a trip along the lakefront trail. Participants will stop for dinner at the Terry Student Center, located at Loyola's Water Tower Campus, before riding back to the Lake Shore Campus. All students are invited to participate, and there is no event fee. Free bike rentals and helmets are available to the first 50 off-campus Loyola students living in the Rogers Park or Edgewater neighborhoods. Attend the Mass of the Holy Spirit
Attend the Mass of the Holy Spirit on September 9 at 4 p.m. in the Gentile Center. This service enables all members of the Loyola community to come together and pray for God's blessing of the new school year. After the service, enjoy a barbeque on Halas Field. Prepare to Study Abroad
Get a head start with your study abroad plans by following these tips:

Apply for a passport as soon as possible. If you already have a passport, make sure it will be valid during the time you plan to study abroad.
Attend the Study Abroad Fair on September 12 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. in the lobby of the Quinlan Life Sciences Center. All students interested in learning about study abroad options can get information on different programs and talk to past study abroad participants.
Go to a Study Abroad 101 Workshop. Workshops are held every Monday and Tuesday during the semester in Sullivan Center, Room 216, from 4 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Attendance at a workshop is required for all students planning to study abroad, except for students who will be attending the Rome Center.

Submit Proposals for the Student Leadership Institute
Contribute to the Second Annual Student Leadership Institute, "Leading Loyola: Creating a Leadership Legacy," which will be held on October 20 from 10:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. at the Lake Shore Campus. The conference will feature workshops presented by students, faculty, staff and community members. All students are invited to submit proposals for workshop presentations. The deadline for submitting proposals is September 14. Accepted proposals will be announced by September 28. Waive Out of Health Insurance
If you already have health insurance coverage, make sure you waive out of Loyola's insurance plan (and an automatic charge of $1,595) by October 1. Complete the online waiver form at: LUC.edu/bursar.
Apply for Research Opportunities
Participate in the Loyola Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (LUROP), which administers all undergraduate research opportunities at Loyola. Undergraduate students who are interested in conducting research and working with a faculty mentor during the 2007 - 2008 academic year can apply to take advantage of the following research opportunities:
Mulcahy Scholars: This program is for College of Arts and Sciences majors who are interested in working on an individual project with a faculty mentor or serving as a research assistant on ongoing faculty projects. Provost Fellowship: This program is for undergraduate students in any school who are interested in either establishing an individual project with faculty mentor oversight or working with a faculty member on ongoing research as a research assistant. Check LOCUS for Financial Aid and e-Bill
Log into LOCUS and click on "My Financial Aid Status" to determine if any steps remain to finalize your financial aid before the Fall Semester begins. If you have an outstanding balance on your e-Bill, now is the time to arrange for additional resources. Federal PLUS and Alternative loans are two options available to students. Federal PLUS loans are taken out by creditworthy parents of dependent undergraduate students. Alternative loans are low-interest loans borrowed by the student. Eligibility is based on the creditworthiness of the student borrower and/or co-signer. For more information about student financial assistance, call: 773.508.7704.
Manage Your Campus Card with the Community System
Visit the new Community System Website at: https://bbramblerbucks.luc.edu. This system replaces Loyola's Online Card Office. The enhanced Community System features an "Online Card Center" section that informs users of news and updates to the Rambler Bucks program and its policies. The "My Accounts" area of the application allows cardholders to view Rambler Bucks account balances and statements, deposit funds, suspend card activity, view transaction history, and sign up to receive special e-mail notifications.
Visit the Career Development Center
Go to the Career Development Center during walk-in advising hours to discuss anything career-related. Get help with resume writing, interviewing, job searches, career goals and interests, networking skills, and more. Walk-in advising hours are Monday - Thursday, 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m., in Sullivan Center Room 295; and Monday and Wednesday, 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m., in 1 E. Pearson/Maguire Hall, Room 236.
