"Walk and Talk" for Campus Safety
In an effort to improve safety in and around the Lake Shore Campus, the Department of Campus Safety has launched a new "walk and talk" program modeled after a similar successful endeavor by the Chicago Police Department. Campus safety officers are increasing their foot patrols and spending more time interacting with members of the Loyola community. The targeted areas are Winthrop, Kenmore, Loyola and Granville Avenues. Patrols will be conducted every day on all three shifts. If you see an officer around campus, feel free to stop and talk to share information and voice any concerns you may have. For more information, contact Campus Safety at: 773.508.6039; or e-mail: asksafety@luc.edu.
Join Spirit Week at Loyola
Loyola's annual Spirit Week will take place January 24 - 30. Six different athletic events will be held at the Lake Shore Campus, including basketball, indoor track and volleyball. Other Spirit Week events include a pep rally, barbeque and tailgate parties. For more information, visit: loyolaramblers.cstv.com/genrel/011607aaa.html.
Make a Donation to Help a Loyola Neighbor
The Nikit Patel Benefit Project kicks off on Thursday, January 25, at Kaffecino Coffee Shop on Sheridan Road (next to the Loyola bookstore). Nikit, the son of Kaffecino Coffee Shop owners Pete and Ricky Patel, was diagnosed with Acute Myelogeneous Leukemia 18 months ago. Despite two bone marrow transplants and countless rounds of chemotherapy, Nikit's cancer has relapsed into Stage 4. The Nikit Patel Benefit project will provide financial support to Nikit and his family, who are struggling to pay for Nikit's prescriptions and treatment. Free coffee, tea and espresso will be offered at Kaffecino Coffee Shop on January 25 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. in exchange for a donation to the benefit fund. This event is sponsored by Carmen's Pizzaria and Sigma Alpha Epsilon. For more information, e-mail: shill6@luc.edu.
Many other events that revolve around helping others and providing services to others occur frequently on campus. For additional upcoming events, check the University Calendar often, at: info.luc.edu/newsevents/public/calendar.cfm.
