Apply for Financial Assistance
Loyola's March 1 financial assistance priority processing date has passed, but we encourage you to apply for financial assistance, if you haven't already done so. Although the likelihood of all types of funds being available diminishes after the deadline has passed, you may still be eligible for some assistance to help offset your educational
costs for next year. Access the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and answers to frequently asked questions at: www.luc.edu/finaid/apply_assistance.shtml.
If you need more information or if you have questions, please e-mail the Office of Student Financial Assistance at lufinaid@luc.edu when you return from spring break.
Nominate Fellow Students for a Leadership Conference
Loyola's Department of Student Leadership Development will send up to six students to the National Conference on Student Leadership from March 31 - April 2. This conference is a skill-building opportunity for students who have demonstrated leadership potential; it is not a reward for outstanding leadership. Nominations are open to freshmen, sophomores and juniors. Self-nominations will not be accepted. E-mail nominations by March 2 at 5 p.m to Jack McLean at: jmclean@luc.edu. In your e-mail, include the nominee's contact information and the reason you think he or she deserves to attend the conference. All nominees will be required to complete an application, and finalists will be interviewed.
For more information about the conference, visit: www.ncslcollege.com/ncsl/spring.html. If you have any questions, contact Jack McLean at: 773.508.3912; or e-mail: jmclean@luc.edu.
Prepare Your Student E-mail System for Shutdown
The migration from the old Student E-mail System (SEM) to GroupWise 7 Web Access is now in its final stage. On March 9, students will no longer have access to SEM. Be sure to back up any messages in your SEM mailbox that you wish to keep by forwarding e-mail from your SEM mailbox to your current GroupWise e-mail address. Also, please be aware that your old address book was not moved to GroupWise, so you will need to recreate it in the new e-mail program.
Information Technology Services (ITS) thanks you for your cooperation and patience during this project. If you have questions, call the Technology Support Center at: 773.508.7190 or 4.4444 (on-campus); or e-mail: helpdesk@luc.edu.

Watch "The OC Experience" video on Loyola's Website and complete an online quiz before April 20 for a chance to win $400 off your first month's rent, or one of several Target gift cards. For more off-campus living information and to access the video, visit: www.luc.edu/judicial/off_campus.shtml.
Purchase Spring Semester Books
Stop by campus bookstores to purchase any textbooks you still need for class. During spring break, the university bookstores will return unsold textbooks to publishers in preparation for the Summer and Fall Semesters. Students may still place orders for any textbooks that are out of stock. Please note that most books take 5 - 7 business days to arrive. Textbooks may also be ordered online at: www.whywaitforbooks.com.
Don't forget to sell back your books to the campus bookstore at the end of the semester. Because the bookstores offer top dollar for your used textbooks, you do not want to miss this opportunity to get extra cash.

Study Smarter, Not Harder

Attend the Chapel Lecture Series
Listen to Thomas King, S.J., Ph.D., speak as part of Loyola's Chapel Lecture Series on March 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the Mundelein Center Auditorium. The topic of the presentation is "Teilhard de Chardin, S.J.: Intelligent Design and the Anthropic Principle." The mystery of creation and conflicts between religion and science continue to inspire and perplex the human mind and spirit. How were these issues addressed more than 80 years ago? This lecture centers on Jesuit priest Pierre Teilhard de Chardin's ideas on how Christianity and evolution are connected, and how he may have responded to the modern concepts of intelligent design and the anthropic principle. For more information about the lecture, call: 773.508.2089.
