After the ceremony, everyone is invited to help construct banners painted with symbols of hope. The banners will be displayed in Madonna della Strada Chapel before being brought to the School of Americas protest and vigil. Review Holiday Shopping Safety Tips

The holiday shopping season is approaching, which often results in a spike in crime. Here are some important safety tips that can help you avoid being a victim:

  • Be aware of your surrounding at all times and trust your instincts.

  • Dress appropriately. Avoid flashy clothes that attract attention and dress in comfortable shoes you can move quickly in, if necessary.

  • Don't overload yourself with packages and bags: It's distracting and it can make you look defenseless.

  • Keep purses and bags tucked securely between your arms and body.

  • Exercise caution when using ATMs, and only use cash stations that are located in well-lit, heavily populated areas.

  • Don't carry large amounts of cash or numerous credit cards.

  • Shop during daylight hours, if possible. If you must shop at night, go with a family member or friend.

  • Beware of strangers approaching you for any reason. People may try to distract you with the intention of taking your money or belongings.

  • Keep your valuables stored in the locked trunk of your car. Never store packages in the back or front seat. When possible, remove unnecessary valuables from your car.

If you are the victim of a crime, call 911 immediately. Calling the police alerts the authorities to the crime and may prevent other people from becoming victims.

If you see any suspicious activity on or around campus, contact the Department of Campus Safety at: 773.508.6039 (non-emergency); or: 4.4911 (on-campus emergency).
