    No Shuttle and 8-Ride Service During Thanksgiving Break

    Thanksgiving break is November 21 - 25. The final day of shuttle service prior to the break is November 20, with the last buses departing from each campus at midnight. Shuttle service will resume November 26, with the first buses departing from the Water Tower Campus at 7 a.m. and from the Lake Shore Campus at 7:30 a.m. The last night of 8-Ride service before the holiday break is November 19, with the last call at 2:15 a.m. 8-Ride service will resume operation November 25 at 6:30 p.m. To learn more about transportation at Loyola, visit: LUC.edu/transportation.

    Plan for Summer Sessions

    Consider your summer academic plans when registering for Spring Semester 2008 courses. Students may take one, two or three courses from four Summer Sessions to wrap up requirements, add a minor or try something new. To review a preliminary list of summer courses in one location, go to: LUC.edu/summer. Note that summer courses listed on the Website are subject to change. Please continue to rely on LOCUS for updated and more complete course information.

    Volunteer at the Loyola Community Literacy Center

    Sign up to tutor at the Loyola Community Literacy Center during Spring Semester 2008. Students can earn academic credit and perform a valuable service for the people of Rogers Park. The Literacy Center is an outreach service project of Loyola's Department of English and the College of Arts and Sciences that provides one-on-one tutoring to adults seeking to develop their English skills. Literacy Center tutors consist primarily of Loyola students who are either volunteering or earning one to three credit hours by enrolling in Honors 290 or English 393. No experience is necessary. Staff members train student tutors, and at least two staff members are available at all times to assist tutors during their sessions.

    The Literacy Center is located at 6576 N. Sheridan Road. Tutoring sessions take place on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 7 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Tutors must make a semester-long commitment to tutor one or two evenings per week. All prospective tutors must attend one orientation session at the Literacy Center.     Note Telephone Service Disruptions

    Information Technology Services is moving the university telephone system to a new location in Dumbach Hall. This migration will take place over the course of four weeks. All work will be conducted from 5 p.m. - 11 p.m. with sporadic outages during that time period. Individual phones will have a one-time outage of 10 to 30 minutes. The work schedule and a list of the buildings affected are listed below.

    November 19 - 20: Campion Hall, Loyola Hall
    November 21: Cudahy Science Center, Cudahy Library, Steam Plant
    November 26 - 30: Damen Hall
    November 30: Halas Sports Center
    December 3 - 4: Crown Center

    Save on Sweatshirts at Loyola Bookstores

    Shop at the Loyola bookstores through November 25 and receive a 25% discount on all Champion fleece merchandise. Loyola bookstores are located at 6435 N. Sheridan Rd., Lake Shore Campus, and at 26 E. Pearson, Water Tower Campus.

    Reserve Tickets for The Diviners

    Get tickets for The Diviners, which runs through November 18 in the Centennial Forum Student Union (CFSU) Studio Theatre. Performances will be held Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., with a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. Tickets are $6 per person.     Donate Hair to Locks of Love

    Participate in the Locks of Love event on November 16 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in CFSU. Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children suffering from long-term medical hair loss. To donate, hair must be at least 10 inches long and may be colored, but not with bleach. Ulta salon stylists will provide free haircuts to those making hair donations. There will also be a bake sale and raffle prizes. All money raised at the event will benefit Locks of Love. This event is sponsored by the Student Nurse Association of Illinois at Loyola (SNAI-L).     Attend the Student/Faculty Luncheon

    Enjoy free food and good conversation at the Student/Faculty Luncheon, which will be held November 16 from 11 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. in the Simpson Multipurpose Room.     Purchase Tickets to Jersey Boys

    Get tickets to see the Tony Award-winning musical Jersey Boys at the LaSalle Bank Theatre on December 4 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be available at the CFSU information desk beginning November 19 at 9 a.m. Tickets are $20 each, and students may purchase a maximum of two tickets. Students must display their Campus Cards at the time of purchase. The tickets are available to Loyola students only, and students must provide their own transportation to the theatre.     Register for the Doctor Atomic Symposium

    Sign up to attend Debating Doctor Atomic, a symposium featuring Nobel Laureates, scientists, experts and faculty that will take place on January 13 in Rubloff Auditorium from 10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. The conference will focus on the complex themes raised by the opera Doctor Atomic, the history of the Nuclear Age and the internal conflicts of the man who delivered the first atomic weapon. Featured speakers include Peter Sellars, librettist and stage director of Doctor Atomic; Dr. Harold Myron, Director of Education, Argonne National Laboratory; Dr. Murray Peshkin, Argonne National Laboratory, Physics Division, and former graduate student worker for the Manhattan Project; Wendy Doniger, distinguished professor of the history of religions, University of Chicago Divinity School; Hideko Snyder, Hiroshima atomic bomb survivor; and Dr. Leon Lederman, Nobel Laureate and former director of Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory.     Participate in the Strategic Consulting Group Conference

    Attend the Strategic Consulting Group Conference on November 19 at 6 p.m. in Rubloff Auditorium.     Give Toys to Hospitalized Children

    Participate in a toy drive to provide holiday gifts to sick children at Cook County Hospital. A table will be set up in CFSU on November 19, 20, 26, 27 and 29 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. to collect donations. Toys must be in brand-new condition and wrapped in their original packaging. Monetary donations will also be accepted. The toy drive is sponsored by the American Medical Student Association and many other organizations across campus.     Enter the Holiday Ad Contest

    Participate in Loyola's holiday ad contest, which runs through November 21. Create a unique holiday message tied to the university's values campaign. The author of the winning headline will receive a $50 American Express gift certificate and your ad will be used in holiday banners and signage at both Loyola campuses.     Go to a Presentation About Italian Americans

    Check out a presentation about the Italian American experience in Chicago on November 26 at 6 p.m. in Rubloff Auditorium. The event will examine the documentary And They Came to America: The Italian American Legacy, which chronicles the lives of Italian Americans living in Chicago during the past 150 years.     Check Out the Tree Lighting Ceremony

    Go to the annual Loyola Christmas tree lighting ceremony on December 3 at 5 p.m. in CFSU. The celebration will begin with a blessing in Weil Plaza featuring the Loyola University Gospel Choir. There will also be caroling, ornament decorating, ginger bread house building, a performance by Loyolacapella, photo opportunities with Santa Claus and the lighting of the Christmas tree.
