    No Shuttle Service During Mid-Semester Break

    Classes will not be held October 8 - 9 due to the mid-semester break. On October 5, final shuttles will depart from both campuses at 10:30 p.m. There will be no shuttle service October 8 - 9. Service will resume October 10 with the first Water Tower Campus shuttle departure at 7 a.m. and the first Lake Shore Campus shuttle departure at 7:30 a.m. The 8-Ride service will maintain its regular schedule during the break period, operating from 6:30 p.m. - 2:15 a.m.

    Get Tickets to the President's Ball

    Pick up tickets to the President's Ball, a semi-formal event, which will be held November 2 at Navy Pier in the Grand Ballroom. Undergraduate students can receive up to two free tickets by presenting their Campus Cards. Seniors can pick up their tickets October 10 - 14. All other undergraduates can pick up tickets beginning October 15. Tickets may be obtained at the Centennial Forum Student Union information desk and at the Terry Student Center. A limited number of tickets are available. Shuttle buses will be available to transport students to Navy Pier on the night of the event. For more information, e-mail Michelle Lata at: mlata@luc.edu.

    Attend a Mideast Peace Discussion

    Participate in a discussion about Mideast peace on October 11 from 12 p.m. - 1 p.m. at the Mundelein Center, Cardinal's Suite East. The discussion will be led by Yaakov Katz, a journalist for the Jerusalem Post, who was born in Chicago and later emigrated to Israel.     Go to the Living Ignatian Speaker Series

    Attend a presentation about "Living to Love" on October 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Terry Student Center, Room 303. Paul Coutinho, S.J., from St. Louis University, will speak on the topic of Ignatian spirituality. This lecture is part of the Living Ignatian Series sponsored by Charis Ministries.     Participate in a Book Discussion

    Go to a book discussion on October 12 from 12 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. in Lewis Library, Room 713. The discussion is part of a reading program called One Book, One University, which is a collaborative effort of various councils and departments. Members of the Loyola community are encouraged to engage in a common reading experience focusing on the theme of the Ignatian values of social justice. This year's book selection is Mountains Beyond Mountains: The Quest of Dr. Paul Farmer, a Man Who Would Cure the World by Tracy Kidder.     Purchase Your Remaining Fall Textbooks

    Visit the Loyola bookstores and purchase the rest of your Fall Semester textbooks. The bookstores will start returning unsold textbooks to publishers on October 12 to make room for Spring Semester books. Also, remember to sell your textbooks back to the bookstores at the end of the semester. If your book is will be used in an upcoming semester, you will receive 50% of the purchase price when you sell it back.     Apply for Research Opportunities

    Participate in the Loyola Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (LUROP), which administers all undergraduate research opportunities at Loyola. Undergraduate students who are interested in conducting research and working with a faculty mentor during the 2007 - 2008 academic year can apply to take advantage of the following research opportunities:

    Center for Urban Research and Learning (CURL) Undergraduate Fellowship: This program offers fellowships for undergraduate students interested in participating in community research projects. To learn more, visit: LUC.edu/curl/aboutus/fellows.

    Mulcahy Scholars: This program is for College of Arts and Sciences majors who are interested in working on an individual project with a faculty mentor or serving as a research assistant on ongoing faculty projects.     Provost Fellowship: This program is for undergraduate students in any school who are interested in either establishing an individual project with faculty mentor oversight or working with a faculty member on ongoing research as a research assistant.     Take Part in a Technology Focus Group

    Attend the Students and Technology Focus Group on October 15 from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. in Granada Center. Discuss your opinions on various technologies, including personal storage, computer usage, cell phones and social networking tools. Learn how Loyola manages and provides different campus technologies and help Information Technology Services plan for the future. Pizza, refreshments and gifts will be provided.     Register for the Student Leadership Institute

    Attend the Second Annual Student Leadership Institute, "Leading Loyola: Creating a Leadership Legacy," on October 20 from 10:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. in the Quinlan Life Sciences Auditorium. The Institute features two nationally known leadership speakers, Joe Martin and Chris E. Stout, as well as a series of workshops. Registration is free but limited to the first 150 students who apply.     Check Out Upcoming Career Center Events

    Take advantage of Science Week, which will be held October 22 - 25. Science Week is dedicated to the exploration of various careers and opportunities in science and technology. Experts from a broad range of science fields will be on campus to answer questions about their careers and give insight into how students can use their science and technology majors. Representatives from various graduate programs, companies and agencies will provide information about opportunities with their organizations.     Attend a Career Self-Assessment Workshop (C-SAW) designed to help students make decisions about majors and careers using self-assessment inventories. To participate in a C-SAW, you must first meet with a career counselor and then complete two self-assessment inventories.     Nominate Fellow Students for a Leadership Conference

    Loyola's Department of Student Leadership Development will send up to six students to the National Conference on Student Leadership from November 17 - 20. This conference is a skill-building opportunity for students who have demonstrated leadership potential; it is not a reward for outstanding leadership. An advisor will accompany students to the conference and all conferences expenses will be paid. Nominations are open to freshmen, sophomores and juniors. Self-nominations will not be accepted.

    E-mail nominations by October 22 at 5 p.m. to Jack McLean, Director of Student Leadership Development, at: jmclean@luc.edu. In your e-mail, include the nominee's contact information and the reason you think he or she deserves to attend the conference. All nominees will be required to complete an application, and finalists will be interviewed to complete the selection process.     Schedule Mandatory First-Year Advising Appointments

    Remember to schedule your mandatory advising appointment. All first-year students are required to meet with their academic advisor in the Office of Academic Advising and Services (OAAS) by November 14. If you are a first-year student, schedule your mandatory academic advising appointment online. Log into LOCUS, click on "Academics," then click on "Schedule an advising appointment." Available advising appointments fill quickly, so schedule yours today. You can also make an advising appointment by calling OAAS at: 773.508.3770; or the Hub at: 773.508.7700.     Update Your Emergency Contact Information in LOCUS

    Check to make sure your emergency contact information is updated in LOCUS. Log into LOCUS to view your personal portfolio, and then click on "Emergency Contacts." Update your emergency contact's name, address, phone number and relationship to you. This information will only be used in the event of an emergency. You may enter as many contacts as you wish. Remember to update all your contact information in LOCUS as needed, including your local (mailing) address, permanent address and phone numbers.
