Go to the Study Abroad Fair
Attend the Study Abroad Fair on September 12 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. in the lobby of the Quinlan Life Sciences Center. Get information about study abroad options, talk with past participants and see amazing photos from study abroad program locations and beyond. If you have questions about a Loyola study abroad program, you'll have the chance to talk with Office for International Programs (OIP) staff members. Note New Water Tower Shuttle Stop Location
The Water Tower Campus shuttle stop has moved back to 25 E. Pearson, on the Wabash side. Exit the east lobby door in 25 E. Pearson to Wabash to board the shuttle. The first shuttle departs from the Water Tower Campus at 7 a.m. For more information about Loyola's shuttles, visit: LUC.edu/transportation.
Participate in the AIDS Walk and Run Chicago
Join members of the Loyola community and take part in the AIDS Walk and Run Chicago on September 15. Check-in begins at 8 a.m., the 5K run begins at 9:55 a.m. and the 5K walk begins at 10 a.m. All participants will meet at the Loyola tent in Grant Park near the intersection of Columbus and Balbo. Hard-copy registration ends September 10 at 5 p.m., and online registration is available through noon on September 12. Complete Charge Authorization Forms
Charge Authorization Forms allow students to add Rambler Bucks to their Campus Cards in order to purchase textbooks at the Loyola bookstore. Students may add up to $600 to their Campus Card per semester. This charge is added to the student's account and must be paid in full along with all other tuition and fees. Please note that only one form per semester will be accepted. Charge Authorization Forms for the Fall Semester may be submitted through September 7. Fill out the form, available at: LUC.edu/campuscard/forms.shtml.

Take Part in the Neighborhood Bike Ride
Join Loyola students, faculty, staff and community members for a bike ride on September 9 from 2 p.m. - 7 p.m. Enjoy biking through the Rogers Park and Edgewater neighborhoods, followed by a trip along the lakefront trail. Participants will stop for dinner at the Terry Student Center, located at Loyola's Water Tower Campus, before riding back to the Lake Shore Campus. All students are invited to participate, and there is no event fee. Free bike rentals and helmets are available to the first 50 off-campus Loyola students living in the Rogers Park or Edgewater neighborhoods. Attend the Mass of the Holy Spirit
Attend the Mass of the Holy Spirit on September 9 at 4 p.m. in the Gentile Center. This service enables all members of the Loyola community to come together and pray for God's blessing of the new school year. After the service, enjoy a barbeque on Halas Field. Tour the New Fine Arts Annex
Go to an open house at the new Fine Arts Annex on September 10. Tours will be available from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., with a short program at 12:30 p.m. in the dance studio featuring the Chairman of the Illinois Arts Council, Shirley Madigan. The Fine Arts Annex is located at 1131 W. Sheridan Road. The open house is sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences and the Department of Fine and Performing Arts. Schedule Mandatory First-Year Academic Advising Appointments
All first-year students are required to meet with their academic advisor in OAAS. An online appointment scheduling system will be available beginning September 14. To schedule your first-year mandatory advising appointment online, log into LOCUS, go to "Academics," then go to "Schedule an advising appointment." To schedule your first-year mandatory advising appointment prior to September 14, please e-mail your academic advisor. Submit Proposals for the Student Leadership Institute
Contribute to the Second Annual Student Leadership Institute, "Leading Loyola: Creating a Leadership Legacy," which will be held on October 20 from 10:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. at the Lake Shore Campus. The conference will feature workshops presented by students, faculty, staff and community members. All students are invited to submit proposals for workshop presentations. The deadline for submitting proposals is September 14. Accepted proposals will be announced by September 28. Learn About the Carbon Scholars Program
Apply to the Michael and Dorothy Carbon Scholars Program, which is open to undergraduate students with junior standing who are majoring in biology, chemistry, environmental science, mathematics, statistics or physics. This program gives students the opportunity to conduct interdisciplinary research with faculty and provides students with financial support throughout the course of the program. Applications for the program are due September 28. Go to the Career Development Center during walk-in advising hours to discuss anything career-related. Discover the New Center for Experiential Learning
Learn about Loyola's new Center for Experiential Learning, which provides students, faculty, staff and community partner organizations with a centralized resource for university-sponsored experiential learning opportunities. The Center offers information, resources and support in the areas of academic internships, undergraduate research experiences, service-learning opportunities and federal work-study community-service sites. The Center's new Director, Dr. Patrick Green, joins Loyola after serving as the Director of Career Services at Roosevelt University, where he also taught in the College of Arts and Sciences. Apply for Research Opportunities
Participate in the Loyola Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (LUROP), which administers all undergraduate research opportunities at Loyola. Undergraduate students who are interested in conducting research and working with a faculty mentor during the 2007 - 2008 academic year can apply to take advantage of the following research opportunities:
Mulcahy Scholars: This program is for College of Arts and Sciences majors who are interested in working on an individual project with a faculty mentor or serving as a research assistant on ongoing faculty projects. Provost Fellowship: This program is for undergraduate students in any school who are interested in either establishing an individual project with faculty mentor oversight or working with a faculty member on ongoing research as a research assistant.
