Attend a Town Hall Meeting with the President
Go to a town hall meeting with Father Michael J. Garanzini, S.J., on September 24 at 3:30 p.m. in Centennial Forum Student Union. All students are invited to participate in this dialogue with the President about issues of interest related to the university. A reception will follow the meeting at approximately 4:30 p.m.
Learn About the Ricci Scholars Program
Apply to the Ricci Scholars program, an innovative research and cultural immersion curriculum organized around the theme of the meeting of East and West. Ricci Scholars receive scholarships for travel, research and immersion during their junior year of study for one semester at both the John Felice Rome Center and at The Beijing Center for Chinese Studies. High-achieving sophomores who have demonstrated academic success and possess a strong grade point average are invited to apply to the program. Applications are due November 15 and are available at: LUC.edu/ricci. Contribute to Loyola's Literary Magazine
Submit your creative work by September 21 for possible publication in Diminuendo, Loyola's literary magazine. Short stories, essays, poetry, photography, fine art and other creative work may be submitted. Diminuendo is published on a quarterly basis and is printed in black and white. The first issue of the year, "Sex," is part of a yearlong series titled "Sex, Drugs, Rock-n-Roll and Afterglow." Submissions can be e-mailed to: diminuendoluc@hotmail.com; or dropped off in Mertz Hall, LL29. Students interested in designing and editing the magazine are welcome to attend meetings held in Mertz LL29 on Mondays at 7 p.m. and Thursdays at 3 p.m. For more information, e-mail: bkidman@luc.edu.

This event is co-sponsored by Loyola and 22 other local universities. More than 200 graduate and professional schools will be on hand to talk about admission into their various programs. Reserve Tickets for "Waiting for Godot"
"Waiting for Godot," the first production of Loyola's 2007 - 2008 theatre season, opens September 27 and runs through October 7. Performances will be held in the Mullady Memorial Theatre at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday afternoons. Tickets are $15 for the general public, $10 for faculty and staff, $8 for students, and $6 for Loyola students with a student I.D. Check Out the Wellness Fair
Go to the Wellness Fair on October 3 from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. in the Gentile Center. Explore your personal and community wellness through physical screenings, self-assessments, games, music, a blood drive and free massages. Learn more about the eight areas of wellness: social, physical, intellectual, vocational, emotional, spiritual, cultural and environmental. Free food will be provided and prizes will be awarded. Read the Winning Summer Essay Contest Entries
Check out the winning entries for the 2007 Summer Essay Contest, which are posted at: LUC.edu/seminar/contest.shtml. During Summer 2007, incoming students were invited to read Mountains Beyond Mountains: The Quest of Dr. Paul Farmer, a Man Who Would Cure the World, and participate in the Summer Essay Contest. More than 100 students submitted reflective essays on how they view Dr. Farmer as a representation of the mission and values of Loyola University Chicago. Three essays written by Eric Holmes, Jennie Kuckertz and Michelle Leahy were selected by a committee of faculty and staff as the contest winners. Congratulations to the winners and to all the other students who began engaging learning during the summer prior to arriving at Loyola.
