Loyola University Chicago is an independent, Catholic and urban university with a Jesuit heritage, emphasizing the development of the intellectual, social and moral values, and character of its students. Dedicated to higher education and health care, the university has national, regional and international influence.
The Graduate School administers all academic programs leading to Master of Arts (M.A.), Master of Science (M.S.), Master of Divinity (M.Div.) or Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees, as well as dual-degree programs and certificate programs. The Graduate School Catalog provides students with information regarding the academic policies and regulations of the university, and the policies and programs of the Graduate School. Students who enter the Graduate School at Loyola during academic year 2006-2007 are governed by this catalog.

Student Responsibilities
It is the personal responsibility of each student in the Graduate School to actively know all the pertinent regulations set forth in the Graduate School Catalog.
Within the Graduate School, the only official interpretation or modification of academic regulations are those that are made in writing by the dean of the school or by a designated representative of the dean.

Confidentiality of Records
Loyola University Chicago complies with the provisions of the Family and Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (Buckley Amendment), also known as "FERPA," when releasing personally identifiable information concerning students. This law stipulates that a student's record is confidential information and must not be released without prior written consent of the student. It further states, however, that the university may release certain "discovery information" to appropriate parties at its discretion. To do so, the university must inform students of their right to withhold the release of "directory information" about themselves. "Directory information" consists of a student's: name, address, telephone number, date and place of birth, majors, dates of attendance, degrees, awards received, previous schools attended and similar information.

The university reserves the right to refuse to admit or readmit any student at any time should it be deemed necessary in the interest of the student or of the university to do so and to require the withdrawal of any student at any time who fails to give satisfactory evidence of academic ability, earnestness or purpose, or active cooperation in all requirements for acceptable scholarship.
